0.33l bottle brought home from Braai Tapperij de Mug, Middelburg. This one pours a crystal clear golden body that has a small blonding white head that immediately sticks to the sides of the glass. At first it smells a bit metallic and almost like boiled cabbage! That’s a bit of a downer.. But after a while I get smoky sausage-tones in this aroma. Yeah, smoky salami blended with boiled cabbage in a metallic kettle. That’s a first I guess, and the strange part is that it’s actually not horrible at all. The taste is nice and typical for it’s genre. A bit alcohol and yeast, white sugar with a gentle fruity-metallic hint. Yeah, it definitely tastes like it should this one, and it has a near burning alcohol aftertaste. Can’t complain. 13.07.2012

Drink cool (12°) Eye: Pours a golden to copper, hazy color with a medium white rather quickly dissipating head. low to medium carbonation. Nose: sweet yeast, ripe banana. Mouth: bitter if you breath out through your nose. yeast once more. wheat and spicy hops, a bit metallic. Palate: herbal hops, honey, licorice. Overall: good strong ale. bit on the bitter side, hoppy side and because of that not too complex.

Bottle from de Bierschuur in Poppel. The beer has a ocher blonde color and a large white head, with average carbonation. In the aroma clear tones of hops, yeast, citrus, cloves and a little vanilla. The taste is full bodied, with the sweetness of fruits and vanilla, to change into a nice bitterness from the hops and the yeast. The finish is full, warming and a little sweet. A nice ale, which reminds me of Leffe Blonde, but not quiet as good.

Aroma: sweet fruit, berries and yeast. Flavour: round sweet fruit with some bitterness and a sour finish and little yeast. Color: amber with a white head. From: eurospar en Fuerteventura 021114 (by far the best beer I had on the island)

Alken-Maes’ reaction to Duvel, with which it is notoriously hard to compete. Snow white head, orange blonde colour; sweetish malt character, some equally sweetish fruitiness, spicy notes, mild grassy hop bitterishness and warming alcohol in the finish. Less complex than many of its congeners and to much to the sweet side, but not bad after all.

Strong fruity aroma. Clear golden colour with reasonable head. Nice smooth fruity flavour with excellent finish. Surprisingly light body with nice smooth texture and low carbonation.
