Fra flaske på Cardinal julaften (DSJT nov-14): rubinrød med højt kortvarig skum. Vinøs smak med krydder og sødme. Varmer i magen. Hadde det ikke vært 107 sorter å velge mellom hadde jeg kommet itlbake til denne.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle served in a snifter glass.
A: Pours a dark amber to brow color. Clear. Forms a creamy and fluffy beige head. Good retention and some lacings left. Some spotty lacings on the top that remains for long time
S: Very sweet and extremely fruity in the nose, with some spices too. Notes of raisins and figs. Toffee, caramel malts, very bready yeasts
T: Follows the nose. Sweet malts upfront. Very fruity with strong notes of dark fruits, mainly raisins, plums a and figs. Spices can be also felt, maybe black pepper. Complex. Toffee, caramel malts, brown bread. Belgian bready yeasts and a soft hoppy bitterness in the end
M: Heavy creamy, and bit molasses body. Medium carbonation. Bittersweet aftertaste. Belgian style
O: Good drinkability. Very decent beer from Du Bocq. Classic BSDA

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at home. One year old. Pours a hazy reddish brown colour with a big, beige, creamy head. Aroma of dried fruit, wood, leather, brown sugar and some chocolate. Has a even more sweet flavour which is pretty similar to the aroma with more dried fruit. Has a rich mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A complex and sweet Belgian strong ale. Nice enough.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Dark brown colour with a beige head with medium duration. Aroma is Belgian yeasty, chocolate, chocolate plumbcake and toasty. Flavor is sweet, brown sugar, toasted malts, cookies and chocolate, slightly citrus notes and a light bitterness in the final very good compensated with the sweetness.

0.33l bottle. Finally! Have been chasing and missing this the last two years, so have been waiting for this. It’s a deep dark ruby-brown beer with a nice medium sized heavy lacing light brown-ish top. It has a nose that contains of candied sugar, dark malts, Belgian yeast and traces of both chocolate and not much more to be honest. A nice non-extreme one. It has an average+ carbonation level and a oily mouthfeel. In the taste there is more Belgian flavors. Both the yeasty thing and the sweet candied sugar, but also a slightly vanilla-like tone also. Traces of cinnamon and cardamom also shines through, but more subtle. It’s a bit sweeter than what I had imagined, but I like it. Worth waiting for - even though it doesn’t stand to much out of the crowd. A couple of things that don’t make to much sense with this: 1: The name? Julemandens Trøst? Well, OK, a Danish name because it for a Danish importer, brewed by a Belgian brewer in Italy? And the label on the bottle almost makes it look like a soda for children. Makes it quite interesting and a bit mysterious if you ask me. 29.11.2012

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A bit more red than usual is mixed in this clear dark brown christmas beer, and the head is quite large, creamy and light-brown. Some lacing are left on the glass, the head isn’t very long-lived. The aroma is quite strong with lovely notes of belgian yeast, sweet dried dark fruits, dust and lightly roasted coffee in the back. Light to moderate sweet initial taste (i.e. a bit less sweet than the average christmas beer) that is balanced by a moderate bitter and long-lasting and slightly dry finish. The belgian yeast is very obvious in the flavour profile, also lots of spices and sweet dried dark fruits. Medium to full body, the texture is very smooth and pleasant, and the carbonation is quite lively. A very nice one!
