Draft at Yard House, Pasadena. An amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is malty with notes of caramel, while the flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel as well as light notes of fruit and bread. Quite nice.

Steinhaus Jumping Cow Amber(they brew for Trader Joe’s) (MN)-12oz bottle-pours a fizzy white head and copper color. Aroma is musty, medium malt-caramel, corn? Taste is macro lagerish, medium malt-caramel, artificial sweetener, secondary flat (English) hops or am I giving them too much credit for the hops and its just cardboardy along with some sourness. Less than desirable aftertaste. OK carbonation. Firestone Walker does this.

Amber/red color with an off-white head. Mild sweet caramel flavor with a little fruit. Less than dry.
Earlier Rating: 8/4/2007 Total Score: 3.1
Combo smell of caramel malt and some decent, perhaps floral, hop. Dark amber brown color with a head that ringed, but leaves light ring lace. Medium bodied, with near creamy carbonation. Caramel malt with not quite enough hop to balance it. Yet the flavor is really good. Must be from the hop that gave it the floral nose. The finish is halfway dry, at least. There is some toffee and light bitter in the mouth. It’s pretty good.

A: The pour is quite typical for an amber ale as it is (miraculously) amber in color with a small off-white head. S: The nose is mild with some toasty and biscuity malts with perhaps a touch of citrus from the hops. T: The flavor is rather bland as well with the primary flavors consisting of toasty and bready malts. The hops aren’t very noticeable at all, perhaps just a touch of bitterness. M: The body is medium with a slightly creamy feel on the tongue. D: A decent enough amber ale, though I prefer the hoppier varieties of this style
