Sitting on the back patio of Jupiter on a brisk December evening in Berkeley. A clean copper IPA with a nice fresh pine hops character. I really like this one. Well-balanced, a nice compliment to the atmosphere.

Draft pour at Jupiter. Copper-colored and sparkling. White head which is long-lasting and leaves great lacing. Aromas of citrus hops and touch of toasted malt. The palate is crisp and clean, effervescent, with a long-lasting finish. The taste is lightly sweet, but dominated by a pleasing citrus hop and peppery bitterness. Quite enjoyable. An excellent choice.

Bear's Lair, UC Berkeley: Medium amber hue with very good head and lace. Aroma was that of grapefruit, pine, butterscotch, cashews, and mild sweet spices. Nice piney hop and roasted malt balance, smooth and more akin to a British IPA than a West Coast IPA. Dry and mild spice finish. Medium-bodied with a lively mouthfeel. Damn nice brew, easy to drink and quite enjoyable. For fans of traditional IPA, seek out if in the SF Bay area.

Draught at Jupiter, Berkeley, California.
6.8% ABV. Small off-white head on a clear amber/orange body. Bitter hops is dominating in the aroma with some fruity sweetness in the background. Caramel tones. Good bitter hoppy flavor, not overwhelming. Easy and smooth and quite fruity with nutty tones. Dry and flowery end.

Tap. Bear’s Lair Brewpub (Berkeley, CA, USA). Thin head. Nice, dark amber/ruby color. Taste is noticibly hoppy, like an IPA should be. Hops dominates, but there is a strong taste of malt and yeast, which isn’t too helpful in an IPA. Carbonation is satisfactory, but lasts throughout the whole pint. Tried this as something new, but it appears to be VERY popular, as it is frequently tapped out. It used to be my standard tap pour at the Lair Brewpub, but, again, it is becoming frequently tapped out.

Draft at the brewpub. An amber beer with a lazing white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of nuts and caramel as well as lighter notes of grapefruit. The flavor is sweet with notes of nuts, caramel, hops, grapefruit, leading to a nicely bitter finish. Well balanced.

Medium orange gold color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, touch of hops. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are slightly citrusy and grapefruity. Nice balance. A typical brewpub IPA, very strictly to style. Well made though. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Draft. Ruby-amber beer with a nice white head. Grapefruit/pine aroma, but not over the top. Nice subdued fruity flavor. Citrus hops, slight caramel backing. Just a bit of pine/resin. Nice smooth, dry finish. Has some hops, but could use just a bit more bitterness. If you’re not looking for an IPA with a lof of hops, this is a decent beer.
