Seven different malts, oats and American grown hops make for a big, intense attack. This big brown ale has layers of flavor bringing toffee, nuts, caramel in an assault of American grown prowess. One if by land, two if by sea; seems like two to me. 5.9% alcohol for BB-59.

In short: Nutty (cashew-like) caramel, brown bread and citrusy hops. Above average brown ale.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh two days after purchase
The look: Clear amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose of fresh whole-wheat bread and cashews. Taste is has creamy nutty caramel, notes of toffee, whole-wheat bread, quite a bit of cashews. Finish adds a refreshing citrusy hopping. Body is slim but never watery. Brown Ale is not the most exiting style but this one was really satisfying. Big Mamie is the nickname of the USS Massachusetts (BB-59) battleship. Really. And it wasnít written on the bottle or anything. But donít call me a Mr. Know-It-All. Iím more of a Mr. Google-It-All.

Bottled version. Pours out a medium clear amber color. Frothy head. Aroma is lightly sweet and nutty. Flavors are well balanced - nice malt profile. Buttery caramel, roasty, nutty with slight hop finish. Probably my favorite brew from Just Beer so far (since the switchover from Buzzardís).

Only available at Chancellors in Fall River, MA! Pours a clear amber/brown color. Aroma has malts, caramel, and oats are all present. Palate is nice and crisp. Flavors include all that was stated earlier plus a slight hop presence. Leaves a malty finish. Just a slight over carbonation on this one. But besides that, it makes a pretty good brown Summer Ale.
