3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
750mL Bottle, purchased at Wakefield Liquors - Wakefield, RI. A bit of pediococcus earth aroma paired with cocoa powder. Flavors resolve as a thin lactic acidity, the skeleton of a stout, and some leathery and slippery minerals. For $6.99, I couldn’t refuse, but for that I price, I shouldn’t expect more than an infected stout, because I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what this is. At least they’re honest.

1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
This was on tap at Battleship a little while back called Dr Funk or something like that. Pours dark brown, almost black. Aroma definitely has a funky scent. It’s kind of a spoiled malt and dark fruit mix. Taste is the same. I honestly think that this was a mistake that was sold to craft beer restaurants because people would try it just for the cool looking beaker tap handle. A first and last for me.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
750 ml bottle. Color is a dark liquid, dirty brown on the edges and black in the center. No head with weak carbonation. Nose is oak, Earthy wet basement and weak roasted malts. Flavor starts with oak barrel, tart sour fruits, has a slight dry roasted sweetness to it as well. It’s sour and tart but not in a good way. More like a home brew that wasn’t meant to be sour. This was like a sour brown or a stout done really wrong. Anyhow sourheads that come across this shouldn’t expect much. The one thing I did like about it was the big oak characteristic. Not much else.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
They lied--I drank it. Really dark, really sour ale with a lot of funk. Definitely different, but certainly not something you’d want every day.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
750 mL bottle from the brewery, shared at the Richmond Industry Gathering. Pours a clear dark brown color with a large fizzy brown head. Decent head retention. Aroma of earthy, peppery funk. The taste is earth, roasted malts, cherries and mild funk. Medium bodied. Decent.
