Very different on tap from in bottle. A Scotch Porter (listed as such when on tap, but not in the bottle), the bottle version is slightly undercarbonated and a little thin tasting. Still quite good, but a little like toasted barleywater. On tap, however, it is world class, malty and sweet with a little alcohol bite on top. This beer (on tap) is far better than I thought would come from the J.W. Dundee line, I think they should promote it heavily and come up with a stout as well.

12oz brown bottle as part of a multi-pack. Pours a dark brown/black nearly opaque body with ruby-red highlights and a half inch of light tan head. Smells toasty with strong caramel notes and a hint of hops. Tastes toasty with toffee and caramel with slight grassy hops toward the finish. Medium-bodied with ample carbonation. A darn good porter for sure, much better than expected, and certainly the best beer from this brewer I’ve had so far.

Tan head, very dark brown color, aroma of roasted chocolate. Taste is slightly bitter enhanced by a slight sweetness. Nice coffee notes in the body, some roast. Smooth, but finishes rather sweet and a bit thin. Lighter body than a London Porter.

Pours really dark, thin head that disappears quick. No lacing. Smell is malty and kinda burned. Taste is also malty. Mouthfeel is crisp and dry. Good porter.

Bottle (unchilled per goldtwins’ suggestion)... Clear, almost black, dark ruby ale with a mid-sized, creamy, cappuccino head. The aroma and flavor are all about creamy, rich milk chocolate. Tilts toward the sweet side of balance, flavor-wise, but pleasantly so. Full-bodied and creamy with near-spritzy carbonation. Chocolaty, roasted finish. What a pleasant surprise! Larry’s right; don’t drink it too cold... room temperature (70° in my case) is perfection. By far, the best offering from High Falls’ JW Dundee line! Big-time kudos to goldtwins for shipping this hidden gem to me!
