Medway Beer Festival. An inoffensive drinkable session bitter. Light sulphur notes in a lightly fruity base with minimal but juniper flavoured hops. Soft and very drinkable, though initial impressions are that it tastes like dishwater. Once the palate adjusts, this is very gulpable.

Cask conditioned - handpump with sparkler - Fish Inn Northampton. A mid brown beer with some hoppiness on the nose. The taste is fruity and clean and traditional. An obviously well brewed bitter.

A lot of people don’t like Lees beers, and I can see why. They have a pretty unique flavour that has been described as “metallic” and “line cleaner” by various people I know. Agreed, it’s a strange flavour, but I think you either love it or you don’t which is usually a good sign in a beer – after all, distinctiveness is a positive attribute in my book. A golden brew with a faint hop and, well, let’s just call it “Lees” aroma! The flavour is dry and malty, some wheatiness is present, but the bitterness, “Lees-ness” and astringency take over and last into the finish. Sometimes some hoppiness is also detectable. I love it, others hate it. Just as it should be. (cask at Golden Pheasant, Plumley)

A rare sighting in a London pub. Unfortunately, although drinkable, it wasn't in peak condition and tasted rather dull. Amber and kind of nutty from what I could tell. Must re-rate if I get the chance. Handpump, Hogshead, Monument, London EC3, March 2003.

Cask Conditioned. Amber to medium brown beer with foamy head. Quite a sulpherous aroma which follows through into the taste, largely an acidic hop flavour, dry with a pleasant long lasting bitterness.
