3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - FEB 7, 2012
First tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) in April 2008. Cask, handpump dispense. Ruby black in colour with a thin white creamy head. Nice roast malt in the short aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a dusty burnt toast note early on but this fades to give a roast coffee and sweet caramel flavours laced with juicy blackcurrant fruit. Slight dusty hop prickle noted in the dry earthy aftertaste. Finish is malty with a dry toasted almonds on the palate. a decent tasty mild and well recommended.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 FatPhil (6215) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - DEC 19, 2010
Cask (GBBF2010)
7 Lovely treacly aroma
4 Deep red, brief head
6 Simple caramelly, but a bit chalky
3 Seet but watery. Some jam in the finish - do I detect bacon too?
12 Adequate as a mild. Jam implies a flaw creeping in, so probably could be better.

4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 bobinlondon (1179) - Harrow, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 17, 2008
Handpulled cask at JDW Hatch End, Harrow, during spring international beer festival. Newly tapped cask produced a lovely fresh pint with dense off white head. Grainy aroma, wonderful comlpex taste for a low gravity beer. Chocalate, good coffee and roasted grains with a refreshing balancing hop finish. One of the best examples of a dark mild I have tasted anywhere.
