Our first brew from the 2008 harvest of barley and hops. To celebrate the occasion, we selected only the very finest malted barley and the choicest East Kent Goldings hops.
Harvest Ale is brewed by traditional methods in open copper fermenting vessels to a very high original gravity, and fermented with our excellent Cervisiae yeast to produce a very special ale.

Harvest Ale is then stored to impart excellent keeping qualities and to ensure that it will mature and improve with age. The result is an excellent full bodied beer that can be enjoyed by itself or as an accompaniment to a meal.

Poured completely flat with deep copper hue, it has strong caramel aroma with a hint of resin and alcohol. Still tastes sweet despite 6 years of aging. It has a robust flavor of caramel and toffee, unfortunately this beer syrup is off balanced and may never prime.

"sampled 2001 and 2008 vintage together 11/27/10. 01 pours dark, 08 is golden. both smell incredibly sweet, the former being in aroma and flavor like booz soaked raisinettes. the 08 smelled very good, but had a very odd off-putting component to the flavor. not too hot, like it needed age, but like something was in there that just didn’t fit. can’t quite put a finger on it, but the 01 was definitely better. don’t think i like this enough to bump it from 101 into the top 100, and at the price (almost a buck an ounce) there are better sippers, and better barleywines out there, though this was good. 01-8,8,9,9,8 (4.2) 08-8,8,8,5,7 (3.7) i’ll giver a 4."

275ml bottle from Tuckers Maltings. Hazy dark brown amber colour, thin off-white foam head and aroma of molasses, toffee, caramel. Taste is sweet, malty, with brown sugar, toffee, caramel and a nutty, earthy, boozy note. Smooth mouthfeel, medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, dry sweet nutty finish. Quite drinkable.

Bottle. Pours smear clear deep amber with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly and completely. Aroma has lots of caramel notes with a bit of light fruit and a sweet grain backbone. Flavor has an interesting combination of pest, smoke and sweet grains with caramel backing.

Tasting at Bruce’s Pad. Big thanks to Bruce for this J W Lees whale. Hazy deep amber beer with no real head. Toffee, maple syrup, nuts and light dried fruits. Touch of cinnamon and a whisper of mellow brandy. Light dry finish. Delicious.
