Uriel (141), San Jose, California, USA Mar 28, 2006 Somewhat woody aroma, smooth in flavor. definitely nice in combination with the other types. Just a bit malty, but perfectly so.
vyvvy (1756), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Sep 24, 2008 On cask at Capital Ale House - Pours tawny brown with no head. The aroma has definite calvados influence, caramel toasty malt, oak and abv. Thick chewy body with very light carbonation. The flavor has lots of calvados, smooth rich light toasted malt and lots of sweetness. A fine beer. tronraner (1434), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Sep 12, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours cloudy rust color with thin beige head. The aroma is brown sugar, oak/vanilla, cantelope, apple, carrot. The flavor is very sweet and caramelly, with an obvious oaky vanilla tone. Prune and raisin are in there, but only a faint hint of apple cores. The finish is an intense blast of brown sugar, which leaves a sticky sweetness that lasts long into the aftertaste. Once in a while, especially as it warms, I get an unpleasant note of raw broccoli. This would be okay if the sweetness were toned down a little bit, but as it is, it’s just too cloying for me. MaltDawg (369), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 8, 2008 Calvados Harvest Ale 2004. From wooden firkin from the brewery Capital Ale House Innsbrook 08/27/2008. Sherry, apple, and wood aroma with touch of alcohol in the nose. Cloudy light brown. Lots of stuff going on in the flavor with dark fruits, rum raisin, apple brandy and sherry notes as well as spicy alcohol.
Full creamy mouthfeel but light body. Dry spicy finish with nice warming. Really super slow sipper. This was a treat. KimJohansen (4296), Copenhagen V, Denmark Aug 28, 2008 Hazy brown with tiny beige head. Sweet aroma with plums, caramel, wood and calvados notes.
