Commercial Description:
Only available filtered and pasteurised in bottles.
Matured in wooden casks of Willoughbys Cream Sherry to impart sweet and nutty flavors. Traditionally many fine malt whiskeys have been matured in sherry casks for the enhancement of both flavor and color.
This fully fermented ale has been brewed by JW Lees as a celebration of the brewers' art. Harvest Ale can be enjoyed now or laid down like a fine wine for enjoyment to come.

This one is a definite for the sherry enthusiast. Strong flavors from the cask pervade the beer.

2006: 2006: Intense in every catagory, reeks of toffee, coffee, candied fruits, and some peanut butter, and sherry, once again very sweet, alchohol is just right for the type of product and is well covered and very drinkable. This is a very complex beer. Although, I enjoyed this beer, I like the port version best.

Vintage 2003 poured into a snifter. Pours reddish copper with minimal white head. Aroma is bursting with caramel, biscuit, cranberry, and a hint of cherry and alcohol. Flavor is subtle yet delicious. Tons of sweet caramel, and a bountiful payload of residual sugars. This is certainly one sweet sipper. Aging has brought beauty to this bottle of liquid delight. Palate had become incredibly, almost unfairly mellow drinkable. 11.5% seems like about 2… or none at all. Smooth, and syrupy with a coating, sweet, lingering sensation of sweetness. Simply incredible.

2003 bottle. Poured clear, bright sunset orange with a sticky cap of white head. The aroma was sweet and rich with deep vinous notes from the sherry joining sherry from a graceful aging process.. plums and toffee joined in as well.. warmth prickled the nose hairs on the back.. quite nice! The flavor had toffee, dried berries, and vinous notes at the core with vanilla and sherry laced throughout.. picked up some dry, splintery oak on the back-end. Sweet, spicy, and somewhat tart on the palate (not sure where that last part came from).. more sweet than anything and very dry at the finish (with some oak from the barrel).. this was an enjoyable smooth sipper.

(Bottle 27,5 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Hazy amber golden with a small, off-white head. Somewhat special tobacco aroma - fresh tobacco leaves. Quite full-bodied, sweetish - even sugary - oxidized sherry notes and then again fresh tobacco. A little salty perhaps. Absolutely no bitterness. 200608

Aroma is all Sherry. Appearance is opaque dark amber with a light head. Alcohol and sherry flavor is overpowering. Barely a trace of malt. Flavor of the cask aging is not evident. FInish is pungent alcohol and sweet cherries. This was a 2005 Vintage that I drank in 2008. This may be a beer that needed some more aging, or maybe has had too much!
