Bottle shared by beerandblues2 at the 5/7/11 DC Ratebeer gathering. Pours a hazy red color with a medium creamy tan head. Fades very quickly. Aroma of big toffee and cheesy notes. Quite a bit of oxidation. That taste is toasted malts, toffee and oxidation notes. Medium bodied.

1998 Vintage (tasted on 1/05). Poured a dark, cloudy brown color with a small tan head. Aromas of dark fruits and malts. Tastes of prunes, caramel and light molasses. Nice subtle and complex flavors. Not a typical tasting Barley Wine taste but good.

This Barley Wine pours a dark reddish-brown color with a thin light brown head. Thin lacing. The aroma is malty and fruity. Lighter body than most Barley Wines, with flavors of roasted malt, caramel, and fruit. The finish is very sweet and borderline cloying. Not the best of the style, but maybe a "Beginner's Barley Wine" due to the lighter body and more sedate flavors.

100ml taster from a bottle at EBF 08. Nice, deep mahogany body. Diminishing off-white head. There is hints of sweet caramel in the malty smell, offset by bitter fruits. Hop resin and dark fruits in flavour. Rather vinous impression and a bit heavy to drink, but still enjoyable (12.09.2008).

a suitably hopped dark beer with distinct sourness, smooth mouthfeel. Nice dark colour. Secondary malt and licorice. Somewhat drinkable. Must be shared. Not for everybody.
