COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Previously 7.5%.
There’s a story about some farm labourers who thought that the reflection of the moon in a pond, not far from our brewery, was a lovely truckle of Lancashire cheese. They tried to rake it out, but ended up falling in. You might find a pint of this stuff just as mesmerising.

Half pint. Black colour, almost opaque, brown edge, tiny head. Aroma was malt with hints of cranberry. Tasted malt, was a bit stoutlike, finish had some burn from the booze. Texture was like thin syrup, light carbonation. Overall the character didn’t match the burn that came from the alcohol.

Alengrin (2937) - BELGIUM - AUG 24, 2014
Old ale by Lees, with unstable, loose head and dark reddish brown colour, hazy. Deep malty aroma of caramel, chocolate and nuts, flowers, plums, grapes, cloves, ginger, gin. Fruity and sweetish malty taste, caramelly with chocolate touches, spicy accents, warming alcoholic finish without becoming astringent. Very nice, I’d love to compare this with the bottle version.

Cask at Gulliver’s, Manchester, September 2013. Black, opaque with cream head. Faintly fruity aroma, very delicate compared to its colour and then comes the pear. Tastes like cooked pear in wine, a little sour and a little sweet. Medium-bodied, smooth, vinous and fruity finish. Very strange and very good.

Cask at The Strugglers, Lincoln. Smells sweet and fruity. Looks good - thick dark head. Tastes good, plum and liquorice and star anise. Almost like a drop of pastis in there. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol, November 2012. Dark brown with a decent, off-white head. Sweet, chocolate, molasses and liquorice aroma. Flavour had bready malts, a hint of roast, prunes, more chocolate and a moderately bitter finish. Good.
