Masses of chocolate malt creates a full-bodied, palate-coating beer that is rich and smooth. Notes of chocolate, tobacco and espresso, it’s smoky, toasty and tasty!

The head is great, the body black. It smells coffee, a bit bit chocolate, roasty, nice! The taste is intensive coffee, chocolate, hoppy, intensive roasty, nice intensive Porter. One of the best Porters I had! Great. 15/13/13/13/-/13

On tap at the brewpub. Appearance: pitch oily black, thick mocha brown head. Aroma: Malty with underlying dark chocolate & espresso. Flavour: Very light mouthfeel initially, makes way to a rich chocolate, lots of espresso, smokey , in fact almost a fresh tobacco flavour, very rich and flavoursome, delicious spice and coffee finish. Quite lovely indeed.

On tap in the brewpub. Poured jet black with small white head. Sweet mocha smell and rich sweet chocolate and coffee flavour. One of the best porters in ireland in my opinion

Shared with Northropfrye at brewpub in Dublin. There’s notes of coffee here, but I really like the sweetness in this porter. I liked it.

Keg at JWS. Near black pour, thin white head. Loads of light chocolate in the aroma, some coffee, burnt sugar, light liquorice. Taste gives a surprising amount of molasses - nice - alongside fairly rich chocolate and a bit of coffee. Lingering chocolate and molasses. Medium mouthfeel - on the light side actually. Really really drinkable. A proper sessionable porter - good stuff.

Keg @ J W Sweetmans, Dublin [140813]
Dark brown, ruby edges, thin tan head, good lacing
Aroma - Caramel malt, chocolate, well I’m getting tobacco because of the tasting notes given, dark fruit malts, smooth roast
Taste - Caramel, some soft spicy hops, chocolate, dark fruits, tobacco(!), quite complex, touch of smoke, very nice
Palate - Soft carb, thin to medium body. Finish as main flavour
Overall - Nice porter, some dark fruits in there, perhaps a little thin though

dark brown with ruby highlights and tan head. Too cold so little on the nose but starts to give up chocolate and red berries as it warms. Full bodied with modertate carbonation. Creamy chocolate, dry toast and red berries. Perhaps a bit thinner than some but plenty of flavour.

Tap at the brewery. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Nose is bitter and chocolatey with a touch of meaty smoke which works nicely. As it warms liquorice comes through. Taste is more of the smoked malts and bittering chocolate. Aniseed adds a nice touch. Nice stuff. Kind of like a better Guinness
