Hefe-Weizen (meaning ’wheat with yeast’), this Bavarian style Weiss (Wheat) is highly effervescent with a fluffy white head. Brewed using wheat, pale and munich malt, it is unfiltered, hence cloudy. Fruity and tart in the mouth, with hints of lemon, while the dominant aromas are of banana and clove.

Tap at the brewery. Pours kind of clear, kind of hazy yellow with a small white head. Nose is full of pepper and cloves. Taste brings out a little apricot and banana behind the heavy spice. Quite carbonated. Ok for a style I don’t enjoy

Draught @ J.W. Sweetman, Dublin. Fruity with hops. And this is my favourite beer style too. Nice to find an example of it in Dublin.

Light hazed gold pour with creamy off white head and lace. Aroma of clove and banana. Flavor is dominated by fruity banana esters, coriander, and a flat wheat bitter. Medium bodied and a bit fizzy.

Hazy golden blonde with foamy white head. Cloves and wheat spices on the nose. Plenty of phenol up front with banana coming in behind. Medium body, lots of wheat flavour in the finish.

Yellow, hazy, dense white head
Aroma - Soft banana and clove, apricot, yeast, fruity, classical hefeweizen aroma, but nice and mellow
Taste - Lemon, lightly tart, yeast, soft wheat, soft peppery hops, fruity pale malts, creamy soft cereals, very good
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, very soft mouthfeel. Finish - really good quite intense wave of cereal wheat comes through in the finish
Overall - Really good Hefeweizen, decent flavour, nothing too strong, no harsh banana-clove notes, well balanced.

On tap at brewpub in Dublin. I’m a fan of hefeweizens and this one was quite good. Lots of sweet flavour. I liked it.

Quite a nice hefeweizen. Really good aroma of sweet banana bread, cloves, vanilla. Taste was not as pronounced, but overall a very nice beer.

Keg at JWS. Light gold - looks quite watery. Aroma gives plenty of banana, bubblegum and clove - bit of herby stuff too. Taste is a nice mix of banana, light doughy malt character, spices, bubblegum, light herb. Medium to light mouthfeel - not as full as you'd expect from a Germanic Hefeweizen. Lingering banana fruitiness with some spices. Not my favourite style, but refreshing nonetheless - stands up to the alleged 'top' weizens I've had.

Appearance: Gorgeous cloudy orange with tons of visible carbonation and a proud virginal white head. Aroma: Super yeasty, banana, a little clove, sweet with some citrus notes. Flavour: medium mouthfeel, lots of yeast, quite a lot of citrus and banana, cloves again with a refreshing long yeasty finish. Quite nice. Perfect for good weather drinkin'
