Golden color, small white head, some lace. Grainy, slightly barnyardish Saaz aroma. Malty, slightly buttery, easy to drink. Not very hoppy, nice Sauna beer. omhper (10141), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 1, 2008 Draught at U Klokočnika, Prague. Hazy golden, small creamy head. Light orange-hay aroma. Medium sweet with clean mouthfeel. Light bodied, but the vitak grainy malt holds up very well. The evident hop flavour enhances the flavour further and brings a lingering but balanced bitterness. Well made throughout. Glouglouburp (1876), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 7, 2008 Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings. ----------------------------------------------------------------
How: Tap at brewpub (Pivovar Kácov, Prague)
The look: Partly cloudy blonde body with a large white head
To me a typical Czech Světlý 11° and below is: Well malted body with lots of smooth cereals and a light fresh honey sweetness flavour. Some fruity notes (more fruity notes than in the 12°+) with mostly citrus fruits and a little lemon. The finish is somewhat herbal and citrusy with but unlike the 12°+ there is only a hint of the dry grassy bitterness usually associated with noble/Saaz hops. Bitterness is mild and does not really play a big role in the overall flavours spectrum. A light meringue sensation and an overall freshness impression.. Carbonation is typically very soft. These beers are low in intensity but very refreshing and drinkable in scarily large quantities.
This one: As above, typical for the style with all flavours very well integrated. Unlike the 12°, I prefered the unfiltered 10°. (Rating #1531) MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 24, 2008 My Bottom Line:
This immensely quaffable Svetlé Vycepni proffers delicate citrusy, peppery hoppiness throughout the yeast-laden cereals until a herbal hop bitterness beckons a larger gulp.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A rocky head of foam stands atop the hazy gold.
-This has a great body for a Vycepni.
-This Vycepni is cleaner than that of Dvur Chyne’s (for example), but both are fine examples of this style’s potential when not überfiltered and pasteurized.
-Balance is achieved here, as in all Kacov beer I’ve had.
On tap at U Klokocnika, Praha.
