Golden color, small white head, some lace. A bit grainy, lightly buttery aroma. Malty, slightly woody hoppy flavor. Not bad, but less interesting than Kvasnicové-version. omhper (10454), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 1, 2008 Draught at U Klokočnika, Prague. Clear golden, small creamy head. Light orange-hay aroma. Similar to the unfiltered, but seems a tad lighter and more fragile. The hops are as evident, but the slightly diminished. Finishes with notable bitterness. I referred the unfiltered, but this is almost as good. Glouglouburp (1941), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 7, 2008 Updated: Aug 27, 2008Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings. ----------------------------------------------------------------
How: Tap U Klokočnika, Prague
The look: Clear blonde body with a large white head
To me a typical Czech Světlý 11° and below is: Well malted body with lots of smooth cereals and a light fresh honey sweetness flavour. Some fruity notes (more fruity notes than in the 12°+) with mostly citrus fruits and a little lemon. The finish is somewhat herbal and citrusy with but unlike the 12°+ there is only a hint of the dry grassy bitterness usually associated with noble/Saaz hops. Bitterness is mild and does not really play a big role in the overall flavours spectrum. A light meringue sensation and an overall freshness impression.. Carbonation is typically very soft. These beers are low in intensity but very refreshing and drinkable in scarily large quantities.
This one: As above but a bit more assertive on the hops front. Good one. (Rating #1530) MartinT (4330), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 24, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Crunchy cereals yield a decorous honeyed sweetness which is swiftly balanced by a frank herbal Saaz stature. This Kacov Svetlé Vycepni, in both filtrované or nefiltrované forms, is an example of substance in humility.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Yet another thick icing of a head bobs atop the clear golden.
-The flavor profile is not too vocal, yet it is so authentic and tasteful that it remains one of its best features.
-The herbal, spicy hop finish is solid, but knows where to stop.
-Its body does not appear as well-rounded as the Kvasnicové version.
