guzzler (77), AE, Germany May 8, 2003 Amber color and not much aroma. Roasted malty flavor with a hint of licorice. Not too bad, but lighter than most of the dark beers.
hophead_hans (572), Bay Area, California, USA Aug 22, 2008 tap. Pours black with a large brownish head. Very smooth, aromads of malts and vanilla. Flavor has a slight sour tint, otherwise malt and vanilla, a bit of a roastiness but only a hint. Bitter finish and a smooth mouthfeel. Good. sir_Pino (545), Zawiercie / Żywiec, Poland Aug 19, 2008 No 497

Bottle brown, 500 ml, 12 P
Appearance: Pours deep, intensive and lively, rubby brown body colour with perfectly clear texture, carbonation of the body is medium, head is beige, bright brown like a good strong cappuccino, lacing is really firm and decent. Typical appearance of a Munich or German Dunkel. I wonder why they actually do not devide dunkel beer into at least German Dunkel and Bohemian Dunkel as their character is really contrastive. Bohemian Dunkel is much darker in colour and more bitter in flavour than Munich Dunkel.
Aroma: Nice, more focussed as compared to ’Augustiner Dunkel’, more chalky, gently flowery, pronounced Munich dark malt, grainy, vanilla, a lot of dark bread, brown sugar, mediocre notes of cherry, alcohol is perfectly hidden, toastyness, milk, cappuccino, milk chockolate but not so pronounced as in ’Augustiner Dunkel’.
Flavour: Front is much more dull than ’Augustiner Dunkel’, not so pronounced and clean in its toastyness, some accidity, chalk, notes of ash, saltyness, more carbonation on palate, slightly mineral notes, chockolate, caramel, coffee, dark bread. Finish duration is medium.
Palate: ....................
