Bottle. Aroma is a blend of lemon and grapefruit hops with chocolatey dark malt. Some dried fruit comes in as it warms. Opaque and hazy, tawny dark brown under a lasting, lacy, beige cover. Flavour reflects the aroma, with chocolate and citrus blending. A smokey flavour us also present (black patent malt?). Medium bitterness is the right amount here. Almost crisp feel, medium body, moderate to medium carbonation.

Pitch black beer with a brown lasting head. High in carbonation. smells like an IPA. The taste flings you back and forth between an IPA and a heavy roasted beer like a stout. The roastedness is what makes the aftertaste.

Bottle 0,33L. Pours black colour with huge, frothy, light brown, long lasting head. Aroma of raspberries, caramel and herbs. Taste starts light sweet and chocolaty, than turns into moderate bitter at the finish. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Nice beer.

Nice

Pours jet black with a massive beige head that lasts forever. Took 15 mins to get the beer in the glass. Lovely charcoal, blue cheese, chocolate aromas. Palate is thick but lively. Blue cheese comes through in the taste with burnt coffee, chocolate notes and some over-ripe fruit thrown in. Not subtle but very tasty.

Keg at The Grove, Huddersfield, Saturday 21st February 2015 Black appearance with tan head. Soft, creamy, cappuccino nose, roasty and quite dry, I thought that I’d had this before but clear not. Enjoyed this, good beer. A7 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.5

330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Ver dark brown, almost black colour. Small size, brown head, stays. Spicy hops, roast, milky, dry notes in aroma. Roasted malts, spicy hops, dusty taste. Bit thin and carbonation is quite high. Roast and spicy hops in aftertaste too.

330ml bottle (Bacchanalia, Cambridge)
Nice spicy aroma, both rye and hops doing their thing, dominating the roast. Fairly decent hybrid style, neither particularly stoutlike or pale-ale-like, somewhere in between. Taste has more roast, very dark, but even more spicy hops and rye too. Quite bold. Something a little phenolic there, almost medicinal or smoky, but not quite either. Full palate, nice carbonation. Finish has loads of both aromatic hops and spicy bitter ones. Leaves quite a tingle on the tongue, and just a bit of burnt dryness. A touch of soapiness occasionally.
