Christian (11784) - Odense, DENMARK - FEB 14, 2011
Golden with a creamy and lasting white head. Malty aroma with herbal hops, some mineral notes and actually a touch of yeast that wasn’t in the kvasnicove we had side by side. Sweet malty flavour, well alanced by the hops

Rastacouere (6159) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 31, 2010
Draught at U Klokočnika in Prague. Crystal clear bright pale golden lager topped by a healthy and dense white foam. Vigorous and fresh bready malts meet lemony, spicy, leafy bright hops in this other showcase of great skills by Kacov. Exemplary extraction once again conjures a freshness level that few breweries can match and the above average hoppiness rhymes with an enticing, engaging lemony, gently tart and spicy goodbye kiss. Still, compared to the 10 degrees, the body’s extra size and heat (if very moderate) felt like imperfections. And those differences, when comparing with the same strenght yeast version, seem like assets for the yeast version in which the body seems like a better fit to the flavours.

MiP (14447) - Sřnderborg, DENMARK - JUN 30, 2009
Draught. Clear dark golden colour. Small stable white head. Hint of grassy hops. Seems less hoppy than their unfiltered 10, but maltier.

Draught. Deep golden colour with mediumsized white head. Aroma is malts, hops, mild yeast and some earth. Flavour is quite much the same along with a big dry grassy finish.

Draught at U Klokočnika, Prague. Clear deep golden, small head. Dryish with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Lovely dense bready malt well complimented by an abundance of saaz hops. Superbly balanced with long bitter finish. Wow!

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2008 Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings.
-------- /> How: Tap U Klokočnika, Prague
The look: Clear blonde body with a large white head
To me a typical Czech Světlý 12° and above is: Well malted body with plenty of biscuits and cereals. Sweetness level is in the light-medium range with some honey flavours and a light caramel presence (3/4 honey, 1/4 caramel). Fruity flavour limited to a light citrus flavour. Medium carbonation. Finish is dry and moderately bitter with a light citric touch. After-taste of dry grassy/herbal hops with a light dry spiciness character.
This one: As above but a bit more honey than average and pleasant lemony tartness stronger than in most Czech Světlý. Very refreshing.
