COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tasting Notes Visual: Pale light yellow and cloudy with a creamy head.
Aroma: Fresh yuzu aroma is dominant, matching well with the yeast-derived phenolic aroma.
Flavor: Low-level malt and hop flavor, as well as a slight bitterness. Subtle fresh sour creates richness in taste.
Body: Full bodied, with a low level of natural carbonation that is created in the bottle-fermentation process and provides a very smooth drinking experience.

Hazy white chalk color. Light frothy white head, hugely spiced coriander, orange peel, soft wheaty nose. Big full body, wheaty with tons of oranges and spice. Over spiced, but excellent beer that is smooth and delicious at 8%.

Rating #4600! Reaching a milestone halfway across the world in the best place on earth shouldn’t be too difficult to score a worthwhile beer, but it was helped out when Belgium beat the USA in World Cup 2014 yessterday. So to praise the Belgies - this is sampled in their behalf on the continent of Asia. Cloudy golden and copper coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of bananas, grass, yeast, light hops, coriander seed and some tropical fruits. Medium-bodied; Deep rich rice and strong herbal flavour from the malt and a big spicey hay and grassy character that is very dry - seemingly from the yeast strain. Aftertaste shows some subdued sweetness of banana and honey with a little chewy alcohol flavour coupled with some of the tropical fruits at the very end. Overall, a surprisingly nice and interesting beer with a large complexity and a good balance of east and west - with the east flavours being the rice and malt complexity and the west being the yeast and the rich sweetess of a belgian tripel. I sampled this 33 cL stubby belgian bottle purchased a few minutes ago from CitySuper in Harbour City, Kowloon, Hong Kong on 02-July-2014 for HK$55,00 sampled a few minutes later in my hotel room back in Wan Chai on Hong Kong, Hong Kong on 02-July-2014. Sure, it’s not one of my rare gueuze from Belgium that has been stocked away for a few years, but this will do for a milestone rating!

Quite a high ABV at 8% this Japanese belgian strong ale is contract brewed in Belgium. It pours a nice looking cloudy light gold with a big foamy head. The aroma is pure spicy fruity belgian blond beers. It has a nice smooth full body with a round carbonation. The taste is yuzu/citrus, fruity, spicy, wheat quite tasty. It kind of comes of like a successful cross between a witbier and a blond belgian strong. Really nicely done but at 8% I doubt I’d have more than one in a night.

From bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with thin white head. Aroma is floral. Taste is floral and citrus; sweet, not bitter, with some spicy notes, too. Good carbonation, medium mouthfeel, a little slick. Alcohol is well-hidden. While I prefer the Kagua Rouge, this is very nice.

330ml bottle bought at CitySuper in Time Square, Causeway Bay.

Cloudy hazy golden honey colour with dirt-like yeast sediments; Excellent two finger head with lasting white foam and very frothy; Small sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation; Very fragrant aroma of yuzu (Japanese mandarin), floral, vanilla, light caramel, pineapple, light honey, and Belgian yeast; Nice medium sweet taste of malt, grapefruit, yuzu, apricot, peach, light toffee, cloves, alcohol, hint of phenol, citrus, and nice herbal hops; Mid to light body, pretty oily palate; Taste profile is dominated by sweet maltyness with fresh light grapefruit and yuzu, followed by light and tasty yellow fruits, just the right amount of Belgian yeast, light cloves and moderate herbal hops. The balance is subtle and pleasant. Yay! Alcohol taste is quite potent but not overbearing, no knock on for a long time, a sign for a good BSA; Hoppiness is on-target: grapefuity citrus nose, mild herbal grass taste, and enough bitterness for a tasty finish. Good! Pretty dry after taste, very easy and refreshing to mouth.

Comments: A tailor-made BSA with very nice and refreshing grapefruit / yuzu characters, good aroma and taste balance, mild yet tempting booziness, and a low and subtle hoppiness. Every good BSA has its own nice story to tell, and this one gives me a very relaxed evening while I’m channel surfing Manchester United on vocation in Thailand. Highly recommended!

Bottle at the Watering Hole. Very clear blond colour with white bubbly head. Aroma lots of herbs, lemon, wheat, like a beefed up wheat beer or some kind of wheaty tripel. Taste is nice. Bit of wheat and herb, lots of citrus initially, then Belgian yeasty. Pretty nice. Not very Japanese but nice. After adding the yeast was more fruity, maybe like spiky tropical fruit crossed with a strawberry. Nice.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2013 Bottle at Cacoi. Big, classic wit nose, clean and nice. Cloudy deep gold with a fine head. Nice, smooth body. Thick but clean. Sweet, strong witbier with lots fo spice and fruit. Too sweet, of course, but nicely done. Not too cloying, with a nice peppery finish. Great head lasts forever. Too heavy on the additives, but well done.
