Very hazy amber beer, decent off white head. Nose is a little bretty. Crisp dry palate. Creamy malt, some rye spice. Tangy citrus, lemon slightly dominant. Bretty minerals. Dry finish with a carbonated sting. Pleasant little beer and interesting.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: JUL 7, 2011 bottle. highly effervescent large-bubbled lemon-tinted head. bubble gum fruit ester nose; gummi, sugary, lightly peppery and spicy, lightly husky. sugary, oily approach. highly sweet gum, fruit and brown sugar / toast flavor with waxy esters with confusing acidity. tepid and flabby texture. crystalline and bitter and seems acidic but has weak support.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle and served in Duvel snifter right next to the Porterís Rye Ale from the same brewer: Slightly hazy golden hue with a fading head and minimal lacework. The aroma has notes of lemon drops and grapefruit. biscuity malt, some spicy rye, and a American yeast profile. Twangy and refreshing with a nice acidity over layers of pale malt and slight plastic finish. A bit tea-baggy as well but the sharpness of the acidic nature makes up for it... which brings up the question, is this actually as intended? The mouth feel is vibrant and very approachable but the acidic nature of the brew got to be too much without the depth of palate. An okay beer that was head and shoulder better than the Porterís Rye which is just the opposite of my expectations.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a clear amber gold with a light tan head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma began with some light tropical fruits with an underlying grassy and rye. Flavor is quite similar with a tropical fruits and sweet grain with growing grassy and rye notes towards the finish.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
draft at Blue Monk, Buffalo. Golden, pretty highly carbonated. Grapefruit, passionfruit, sour. Flavor was tart, sour, (is this supposed to be here???) citrusy, fruits, high carbonation, active mouthfeel. Seems off to me unless this was the intention

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is very spicy and of yeast, while the appearance is deep orange. The flavor is heavy on the spiciness from the rye and it tastes very similar to a bitter/ESB. A very nice ale.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Lasting white head on a clear golden body. Grapefruit on the nose, also in the taste along with the rye. Drinkable though not exciting.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
330ml bottle. Lively in the pour with a dense and deep creamy white head gushing forth into the glass. Gold amber colour with some haziness. Passionfruit and citrus in the nose with that sweetness reflected in the flavour. Full mouthfeel with a perfumy aftertaste.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. So I was less than excited to drink this one. However when it started to fizzle and sizzle during the pour I knew something was going to be a bit interesting. The aroma added the next clue, no sign of an off infection but noticeable acetaldehyde, big sweet tart green apple, some spiciness, pepper, touch of light rye. Pours a darker clean bronze with a dense fizzy white foamy froth. Flavor has some soft sourness to it! Lip puckering, bit lactic it seems, nice citrus fruit, some rye earthy spiciness but is really quite balanced and pleasant, green apple that seems to work nicely with the sourness, long lasting tart sour candy aftertaste. Soft full fizzy carbonation that is really even, clean and ridiculously drinkable on a hot day. Sour them all please!!!
