3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jimthechap (805) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - APR 16, 2012
Clear coppery amber in colour with a thinnish white head. The aromas are of spicy malts. There is very little hop aroma but I don’t feel that this matters or detracts from the beer. Cool on the palate with good silky mouthfeel and then there’s an almost peppery flavour that invites second and third draughts.
What I like about this beer: The novelty, the spicy rye twist and the generous golden flavour. I could happily have a few pints of this.
What I didn’t like: Seeing the bottom of the glass.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 BBB63 (5039) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - APR 14, 2012
Bottle and served in Duvel snifter right next to the Porter’s Rye Ale from the same brewer: Slightly hazy golden hue with a fading head and minimal lacework. The aroma has notes of lemon drops and grapefruit. biscuity malt, some spicy rye, and a American yeast profile. Twangy and refreshing with a nice acidity over layers of pale malt and slight plastic finish. A bit tea-baggy as well but the sharpness of the acidic nature makes up for it... which brings up the question, is this actually as intended? The mouth feel is vibrant and very approachable but the acidic nature of the brew got to be too much without the depth of palate. An okay beer that was head and shoulder better than the Porter’s Rye which is just the opposite of my expectations.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 omega (222) - NEW ZEALAND - MAR 30, 2012
Ours a dark golden colour. Has a nice full bodied aroma. Not much carbonation with this beer, but it is nice and smooth.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 arone12 (776) - Maryland, USA - FEB 23, 2012
Pours a hazy light orange color. Smells pretty sour almost similar to a lambic. Has some sour grape tastes with some bitter hops. Pretty good beer.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 scottw86 (909) - Maryland, USA - FEB 23, 2012
Poured a hazy dark color with a big offwhite head. Aroma has lots of yeast, spices, and veggies. Almost like a lambic-saison. Taste has flowers and veggies. Slightly tart with yeast. Overall very nice.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 bluevegie (2934) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - OCT 24, 2011
Lasting white head on a clear golden body. Grapefruit on the nose, also in the taste along with the rye. Drinkable though not exciting.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 maneliquor (1193) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 16, 2011
Bottle at some random pub in NZ. Was told to try this by some guy on the plane. Well that guys a douche. Sour yeast and bland malts on the nose. Surprisingly has a sour funk in the taste. Sour rye bread. Not that great
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 beer4eternity (199) - Tauranga, NEW ZEALAND - AUG 15, 2011
330ml bottle. Opaque, golden amber hue with cracked pepper like sediment and a massive long lasting off white pink tinged sea foam head, good lacing. Looks great in a Duvel glass. Light aromas of yeast ; spice, bread, leather, light malt, citrus - sour grapefruit. Pleasant aromas just lacking in intensity. Tastes bitter and light to moderate sweet, the stand-out here is definitely the grapefruit like sourness, nice. Average carbonation, medium body, long sour and dry finish. I enjoyed this beer much more than its middle of the range percentile rating would have suggested.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 3fourths (6409) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 3, 2011
UPDATED: JUL 7, 2011 bottle. highly effervescent large-bubbled lemon-tinted head. bubble gum fruit ester nose; gummi, sugary, lightly peppery and spicy, lightly husky. sugary, oily approach. highly sweet gum, fruit and brown sugar / toast flavor with waxy esters with confusing acidity. tepid and flabby texture. crystalline and bitter and seems acidic but has weak support.
