12oz bottle, Batch 8513, packaged on May 23, 2008. Thanks a lot Eric heemer77 for the bottle! Clear reddish orange with a 1 1/2 finger light yellowish white head, great retention. Earthy spice and grapefruity hops--though not the typical grapefruit hop. A fair amount of caramel is also present. Flavor was earthier and spicier with a stronger than 8.4% alcohol presence. Bitterness peaked around a 6-7 in the dry earthy finish. Moderate carbonation with a medium full body. Pretty decent--not great, but one of the more interesting DIPA’s I’ve had.

Bottle from BeerBunker. Thanks! The aroma is somewhat grassy, spicy, and herbal with some fruity malts as well. Pours a hazy brown/orange mix with a decent head. Flavors of grassy hops initially, followed by pepper, floral, herbal, and earthy bitterness. Malt base is lightly sweet with some caramel. The finish is earthy and bitter but not too resiny or dry. Pretty easy drinker for abv, medium body, medium carb. Way better than the first time I had it for sure.

I went through a six-pack of this (not in one sitting) without ever suspecting that it was a DIPA. It poured a hazy orange body with an ecru head. It had an aroma of citrusy hops, tangerine and orange peel, over a caramelly malt sweetness that grew as the drink warmed. The flavor has a mild malt base paired with hop flavors of tangerines, tart juicy oranges, and a splash of pink grapefruit. Hop flavors, yes, but not much in the way of a hop bitterness. The finish is mildly bitter. A pretty decent beer, but the only thing that qualifies this as a Double IPA is the strong ABV.

Bottle. Amber body with a tan head. Nutty chewy and yet tart. Sweet malts and the taste of calcium. Good beer.

12 oz bottle from a six pack from Binny’s (South Loop, Chicago, IL). Poured a marvelous deep dark extremely murky amber with a huge offwhite head that sticks around with a cloudy mass for the entire experience. Perfect. Aromas are heavy on caramel and doughy malts, citrusy sweetness to display the hops, and floral. Very nice. Initial is similar, powerful malt profile backed by a very nice citrusy hoppiness that balances very well. Nothing to bitter, quite palatable. Perhaps a little age took the bite off this fella. I really enjoyed this beer but look forward to getting the fresh stuff soon.

Fragrant but subtle hop aroma, some caramel backing, not as intense as a Bells hop brew would be expected, taste seems thick and muddled, hopping comes through, but not cleanly. A fine brew, just not up to the higher Bell standards
