Bottled. Pale beer with a light head. The aroma is thick, wheat beerish and heavy, and the flavour is fizzy, thick, quite bitter and wheatish. Overall a disappointing beer.

Golden with a small head. Aromas are sweet biscuit malts with hints of citrus and dry hops. Flavours are buttery smooth malts, some grain and oatiness followed by metallic hops. Sweet, then dry on the finish. Quite peppery on the tongue. Fairly viscous on the palate.

Bottle. Golden colour with a big fast dissapering white head. Malty light hoppy aroma and a light sweet light hoppy taste. Medium body and a sweet finish.

Bottled(500ml). -Croatian version named Kaltenberg Lager, nice malty and hoppy aroma with pleasant bready notes, quite refreshing and easy drinkable beer, but the question is how long will this beer survive in croatia because there are no representative except for dalmacija

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2005 First, about the brewery. Jadranska Pivovara exists for 35 years now, it used to make its own beers, and Lederer (a german beer), but hasn’t been doing it for a while. It has been making the Croatian version of the Kaltenberg Pils for ten years now, and has been doing it admirably good, but to the dismay of every enlightened beer drinker around these parts (the ten of us, hehe), it has never made/imported the other Kaltenberg beers. There were advertisments in the local newspapers during the last month hinting that there will be a new Kaltenber beer. I was thinking that it’ll be either their Helles, or Light, but hoped for something from the Prinzregent Luitpold lineup. And on the 14.03. they launched a new beer. A lager. Woo-friggin-hoo. As if we need more. So, I wasn’t that excited about trying this (interestingly enough, not advertised on the Jadranska pivovara or the Kaltenberg website). But, I decided to try it anyway. Hey, it’s a new beer in the database. From the beginning, quite fizzy, fluffy and rapidly disappearing head, and pale golden colour. Not promising. The aroma, malty, with a strange acidic hint. The taste ? Luckily, the commercial description is partially false, there is bitteness. The taste is nice, managing to be flowery (almost Ožujsko like), and bready, with a fine hop bitterness in the aftertaste. It’s a bit overcarbonated though, and it can be felt. All in all, it’s a damn fine tasting lager, and probably better than the Pils. But was it really, really necessary to put another lager on the market that’s already cluttered with them ?

A run of the mill helles pleasant appearance, refreshing taste but nothing outstanding. This is compared with other brews from Germany. It is only when you compare it with an average euro-fizz produced in other parts of Europe that you realise the consistently high standards of German brewers.

Pretty standard Helles, ok hoparoma - not followed up by the rest of the beer...
