A run of the mill helles pleasant appearance, refreshing taste but nothing outstanding. This is compared with other brews from Germany. It is only when you compare it with an average euro-fizz produced in other parts of Europe that you realise the consistently high standards of German brewers.

Canned, 0.5l. Pours pale golden color with medium white head. Usual malty aroma with fruity and grassy hops notes.Flavor. Sweet malty taste with strong grainy adjuncts note. Light bodied, thin texture and lively carbonation in palate. Less than average...

Bottle at Polpo Mato. Another disappointing German beer. Straw yellow pour with a big white head. All kinds of yeast settlement at the bottom of the bottle. Florally/citrusy aromas. Some lemon, floral, and cereal notes. Thin, bland, and unimpressive.

Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2012 Bottle from systembolaget. Nice golden colour with a white head. Light hoppy aroma og medium malty taste. Not that normal good round mouth feeling from dortmunder lager beers. Ok carbonation.

On tap at the Yardbird, Birmingham. I was looking forward to a bit of unexpurgated German helles pleasure..... but this wasn’t great. Too creamy, a hint too corny and a little warmly sweet. Thick and sickly in the mouth. Didn’t cut through my thirst.

On tap at a little hole-in-the-wall sandwhich place we stumbled into on our way back from the Oktoberfest grounds on day 2. We had brought bottles up to the till from the cooler and the guy made us put them back so he could pour us "a real beer". Light clear golden with a clingy white crown. I didn’t make notes on the aroma (I must have been hungry, or hammered, or both). Flavours were nice: soft bready malts with a citrus note in the finish. Apparently I liked it.
