3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a hazy brown color ale with a generous foamy head with great retention and some good lacing. Aroma consists of rich caramelized sugar with some fruity notes. Taste is also dominated by superb caramelized sugar notes with some fruity notes and some warming alcohol notes. I had a harder time finding notes of juniper and the barrel-aging presence was really balanced and mixes in well with the caramelized malt. Body was quite full with great carbonation and light warming alcohol notes were perceptible.

0.33l swingtop bottle from trade with MisoW. Bug thanks! It’s not gushing, but popping the cap gives a scary loud POFF, and leaving it on the table for a while, it eventually wants out of the bottle. It has a massive kinda dirty brown dense head on top of really deep dark amber brown body. When the head has settled down a few minutes later the aroma gives away lots of wood sour aromas. A bit of licorice also detected, as is dark malts, a little bit of cocoa powder, sweet port, dark berries and a earthy form for bitterness. Oh, it’s definitely on its way to a infection this. Lots and lots of boozy alcohol in the taste, a woody sourness and it’s really thin and almost a bit watery in the mouth. Luckily there is a a nice licorice spicy flavor shining through the clearly off-flavors. I get a good bit of anise here. Unfortunately that’s about the only thing I’m really enjoying about this one. It has lots of flavor, but I find it to be quite medicinal. That combined with a sourness that clearly don’t belong here leads to the conclusion that this is on its way to be infected. A big burning alcohol burn in the vine-sweet and wood dry finish. Cough syrup in the anise spicy aftertaste. Thanks for the bottle Misow. I really love the concept behind this beer, and I’ll hopefully get to try this again some day - preferably a non infected bottle. *Editors note* This really grows on you throughout the time it lives in the glass. Gaining room temperature and a good amount of oxygen, the acidic sourness is almost completely gone and you are left with an amazing complex vinous, sweet (yeah I know!) and just delicious flavor. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such a growth on the enjoyment scale as this beer has gone from being a near drain-pour into something I really really want to have again. Huge thanks for this one MisoW! What a strange experience.. 12.09.2013

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
thank you MisoW for the bottle!! Pours a very dark brown with a nice tan head. Smells of molasses, dark fruit - like a dessert wine. Tastes of huge molasses, dark fruit ending a bit dry. Thick body with nice carbonation. Some interesting flavors but the sweetness is very high and is a bit tough to handle.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Thanks to MisoW for the bottle. Shared with ThirstyBird. Smell is sweet molasses. The beer starts very sweet. The nice floral and herbal notes are covered nearly completely by the malty sweetness. The mainpart is malty-sweet and slightly bitter. Like a German Malzbonbon. Far too sweet. Thick, viscous, sweet.
The aftertaste is long, but nearly only sweet and slightly hoppy. Nearly no herbs visible.
--> For me far too sweet. --> 8/4/9/8

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml swing top bottle, many thanks to MisoW for this one. Poured into a snifter. ABV 10.5%
Very dark brown colour with red ruby shades when hold against the light. Two fingers of light beige head, good density. Average retention, light lacing left on the glass.
Aroma of dark fruits, lots of plums. Sweet and inviting.
Taste has a lot of wine qualities, lots of dark fruits on the taste too,red grapes, sweet with the alcohol perfectly hidden and thus dangerous.
Medium thin body, good carbonation with just a little bite on the tongue.
Overall a great beer, very drinkable, that should be listed as a quadruple, being Spice/Herb doesn’t do it justice.

Thank you cuso / Imrich for that one ! Thick, bit sweetish with some syrup in the back. Strong and a perfect mate for a colder night. Enjoyed that one really. Front is a bit skunk but the end warming and sweetish.
