A dark brown coloured beer with a thin, off-white head. The aroma is absolutely similar to a cup of coffee. The taste is malty with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. The finish is bitter-sweet. A good one...!

Bottle, 330 ml, at home. Many thanks to MisoW! Poured into a lager glass, ABV 5.5% Pours a very dark brown, almost black beer, with something more than two fingers of light beige head. Foam is creamy and thick, with very good retention and after it finally collapses to one third of its size, it leaves medium thick lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts but mainly chocolate, lots and lots of it, sweet and milky. Taste begins with lots of coffee and a light bitterness, continues with milky sweet chocolate and returns back to coffee, which lingers for quite long on the aftertaste too, together with its bitterness. Very nice! Medium thin body, low carbonation, maybe too low actually, it could use a bit more. Overall a really nice beer, maybe it’s because I haven’t had a black lager in a while, but whichever the case I enjoyed this very much.

Thanks to MisoW for this beer! Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Smell is roasted malt, chocolate, a touch of coffee. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate ending dry and a tough bitter. Light in body and nicely carbonated. A nice Dunkel.

bottle, kindly donated by Cuso - thank you! Deep brown colour, large and creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts. Full-bodied, solid malt flavours with lots of caramel and dark chocolate. Lingering finish with just the right amount of hops to round it off. Delicious.

Small, but reasonably stable light-beige head over practically black beer. End of bottle solid yeast. Chocolate, with distinct praliné aroma, then relieved by very inviting noble hops. Coffeeish, even ashy flavours mixed with more chocolate (black & milk). Mildly roasted witha pinch of lactose. Not very well-bodied, feels well-carbonated and moderately slick. This is pretty good, and goes well beyond your ordinary Dunkel. Many thanks to Peter V., and all the people he mobilized to get the beers to Ursel!

.33l, updated bottle. Small dark caramel black pour. Sweet coffee and breakfast meat aroma, very appetizing. cool and smooth like dry coffee and ham served for lunch. These are flavors I love but don’t add up to a complete beer. in context

0,33 l bottle, from a trade with Cuso. A finger of short-lived beige dense head, atop a translucent, dark ruby brown body. Smell of pumpernickel and dark peppery, gently roasted malts. Slick mouthfeel, medium full. Clean and balanced malt flavor. Much of the same as the aroma, Faint coffee and dark fruits in addition. Clean, delicate sweet malt finish. Very likable.

0.33l bottle from trade with Misow. Yeah, looks quite nice this, really deep deep dark, almost black in the glass and it has a medium sized fading grey beige head that’s leaving some nice lacings. The nose is at first quite wort-burnt infused, a bit like a German kraft maltz but after a while it opens more up with subtle nuances of cold coffee, thin chocolate, dark malts and a little bit of something slightly spicy. Hard to identify, but it smells quite nice. A really nice flavor on this! It’s light burned around the edges, no, a more than a little - quite burned without being to much. Almost like the burned charred part in a good barbecued beef. It’s not a heavy weight er on the mouthfeel but that would not suit this beer either and the carbo level is nice gentle and prickling. A little bit of cold coffee and even hints of chocolate paper. Did not expect all that to be honest, but this was actually quite good. Would not mind drinking this again! 10.09.2013

500ml bottle. Thanks to Euro Santa 2013. Pours black, with little tan head. Poor head retention and lacing. Roasty, coffee, liquorice aromas. Medium body, oily texture, soft to average carbonation. Taste is roasty, some caramel, liquorice, coffe. Quite dry notes. Well balanced.
