Capa (738), Yokosuka, Japan Feb 26, 2007 Pours a nice dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is light roasted coffee, sweet malt, and some molasses. Body is nice with a good amount of carbonation. Flavor is roasted, malty, and sorta sweet. The finish is very lightly bitter and fleeting. A solid brown ale. Xmorgan (2), San Jose, California, USA does not count Jun 6, 2006 Nice interpitation of a Brown Ale, Not overly strong in taste, aroma or mouth feel. If you compare it to Newcastle, it holds up on it’s own.
It is overly carbonated, but it is a nice beer. IslandHaole (1026), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Nov 11, 2005 Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Roasted malts in the nose but not one-dimensional, more going on with the malts, crystal perhaps. Half way into the glass and after a bit of warming, I’m liking this much better than I did at first. Stout-like with a sweet/roasty flavor, nutty middle with a Burtonized salty follow. A decent brew. I like this better than their Pale Ale but not quite as much as their Alt. If you visit Tokyo, visit Kamakura for the Buddha statue and temples but be sure to look for their beers too!
