COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Driftwood is our oatmeal brown ale that is aged in retired bourbon barrels for approximately six months. The aging intensifies the dark caramel malt flavor of the original beer while adding hints of vanilla, sweetness from the bourbon and a slightly tannic flavor and mouth-feel from the oak.

@ the source. Pours very dark brown with small off-white head. Aroma of bourbon and is kind if off putting. Canít pin what that off aroma is. Smells almost like oxidation, but in a worse sort of way. Taste brings a light nuttiness typical of a brown ale with some bourbon. Doesnít suffer the same problem as the BA Omna with over-aging. Palate is average. Finish is fairly clean with hints of nuts and bourbon. What an odd experience. Canít say Iím a fan of this.

Dark brown reddish color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, caramel malts, brown sugar, and alcohol. Taste of caramel, wood, vanilla, bourbon, oatmeal, and lighter alcohol in the finish.

4oz. pour from the brewery. Pours out a nice dark brown color with a small white head. Aroma is of bourbon, wood, brown sugar, light caramel and some vanilla woody notes. Taste is complex, nice caramel, chocolate, mild coffee, woody oak, bourbon, vanilla and a very mild lingering bitterness.

Sample from brewery. Pours dark brown with medium heat and lacing. Bourbon aromas, followed by sweet malts, banana, chocolate. Hints of vanilla, especially in the aftertaste. Ends with a bitter note. Really interesting beer.

4oz sample from the brewery. Pours black with almost no head. Aroma of dark roast malt, bourbon, oak, and some darker fruits. Taste of barrel up front, some light bourbon notes, and finishes with dark chocolate, burnt toast, and sweet dark fruits.

Wow I doubt Iíve ever seen a bigger difference in a barrel aged beer compared with the base. The aroma is filled with fruity esters that are not evident at all in Driftline. Thereís almost a Belgian quality to it. If you told me it was aged in Cabernet barrels I would have never doubted it. Sweet and tannic at the same time. Chocolate notes are augmented by cherry and vanilla. Does well with some warming. Yum

Draft at the brewery. Cola colored with a thin tan head. Aroma is a little muted but has nice oatmeal and chocolate notes. Taste follows suit, with a hint of fudge and just the tiniest hint of bourbon on the finish. Slightly chewy medium mouthfeel. Pretty good but shockingly similar to the base beer. The barrel didn't seem to do much here.

Draft served by The Erin herself during the quick snowstorm of 12/14/13. Poured a very dark brown that is almost black with a small tight foamy beige head. Aroma of coffee, burnt molasses, some caramel sweetness, light bourbon and vanilla notes. Medium to slightly fuller bodied with softer to average carbonation and a lingering dry aftertaste. FLavor of burnt toast, wood, alcohol, dark burntn fruit skins, some dry molasses, hint of dark coffee and vanilla. Solid beer but flavor is better than the aroma.
