Head High is our interpretation of an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA). This beer is all about the hops; we use a blend of five different varieties all grown in the Pacific Northwest. A small charge of Chinook and Columbus early in the boil adds a smooth bitterness. A majority of the hops are then added late in the kettle or post-fermentation to produce a beer that is heavy on hop flavor and aroma. The combination of Cascade, Centennial, Citra and Columbus give Head High a noticeable grapefruit flavor with aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. Our house American ale yeast ferments to a dry finish that accentuates the use of imported Pilsner and lightly kilned crystal malt resulting in Head High’s straw color and crisp flavor.

From a growler, provided by Travlr, thanks! Poured a nice slightly hazy orange color with a nice white head. Aroma was notes of pine resin, herbal, earthy hops and a nice slightly tropical fruit note. Flavor was quite nice in the hop department, imparting notes of earth, pine and citrus. Very refreshing, enjoyable to consume. Thanks!

On tap at Tapastre, Somerville, NJ. Pours bright golden yellow with a white head. Aroma is nice hoppy citrus, with a bit of bready scent. Attack is crisp and hoppy, balanced nicely with a citrus maltiness. Clean finish. Excellent IPA, best in NJ in my mind. And, wait till you get a chance to try the dry-hopped galaxy or citra versions!

This was a growler of double dry hopped galaxy head high, from Joe Canal’s. The first sips are very bitter and overwhelming, but then the taste develops and it is amazing. This beer is all about the hops and presents them beautifully. Passionfruit from the Galaxy is very evident and blends well with the citrus. Fortunately it was not too strong because I wanted to finish the entire growler in one sitting. An amazing beer experience!
