COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our last tank was filled with our American-style IPA called Head High. More specifically it’s closer to a west coast style IPA. This style is typically lighter in color and drier in body then a traditional American-style IPA. We used a mix of American two-row and German pilsner for the base malt and added a small amount of light English crystal and Carapils malt for some color and body. We used Columbus and Chinook in the boil, and Ahtanum, Citra and Centennial in both the whirlpool and for dry hopping. The resulting beer is not too bitter but hoppy and aromatic. At 6.5% ABV it’s manageable enough that you can have a few pints. We did a lot of pilot batches for this beer. The reason is that we were unable to get our hands on a couple of the hop varieties that we’ve been using in our IPAs for years—specifically Simcoe and Amarillo. So we had to tweak the IPA recipe we planned to use and began playing with different hop varieties and combinations. We are really happy with the combination we came up with and think this is a better beer than the original.

Great aroma of grapefruit and citrusy hops. Taste is a beautiful balance between sweet base and spicy grapefruit hops. Great west coast flavor from a local nj beer.

Had on draft at The Office Beer Bar & Grill in Summit, NJ. Aroma: tropical fruit aromas everywhere. Not the classic C hop tropical fruit (although they’re in the background). Mostly mango, passion fruit, peach, orange and pineapple. Appearance: Very light color (low crystal malt, if any was used at all) and just a tinge of cloudy haziness. Taste: more of the tropical fruit goodness that was experienced in the aroma. Bitterness is there, but quite subdued. I would imagine this had mostly late addition and hopback hop additions prior to fermentation. Palate: clean, crisp, dry and light bodied with moderate carbonation that coats the tongue. Overall: I would say this is one of the top 3 IPAs I’ve every had (including everything at Russian River and Alpine). I had never even heard of this brewery, and I’m glad I stumbled across them. I sampled 3 other beers by them on the same day, and all were good. This was the best, however. They had a version of this that was double dry-hopped with Galaxy. Sounds ridiculously awesome right? This version was better to me. It had more tropical aroma. Not that the other version wasn’t fantastic, but this beer was off the charts kind of good.

Pours clearer golden with a big creamy white head. Aroma is so delicious bringing sweet citrus big and juicy to the nose. Flavor is the same, big juicy citrus and zesty hops that never seem to bite. It is big and smooth, so nice as a single IPA.

Sample at the brewery, have had this in a growler before. A: Pours a clear orange with a one finger white head. S: Very strong citrus notes (mango is most noticeable) with some hoppiness on the tail end. T: The citrus notes are more pervasive in the taste, specifically orange, mango, and peach. The centennial hops play a role here as well, with very little bitterness and residual sweetness on the finish. M: This beer is well carbonated, medium bodied, and refreshing. O: A great take on the style. It isn’t over the top with the bitterness, but the aroma and flavor are out of this world. It reminds me a lot of CC Jai Alai, my favorite IPA.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2013 On tap at Mexican Food Factory w annie, hazy glowing orange pour. Medium sized off white head. Very lasting with nice lacing rings. Aromas and taste of bitter juicy hops, lots of resin, grapefruit, wood, orange, pine. Sticky mouthfeel, medium body. Best hoppy beer made in NJ. Boat beer from Carton is a close second for me but this thing is so sessionable and juiced out. Hopheads best be searching this out.

Draft @ The Spot. Pours a lighter amber with a pillow of a white head. Smack in the face with dank pine and citrus hops....im talking Macho Man Randy Savage(RIP) snap* into a slimjim style hops. The flavor is packed full with much of the same piney/resiny hops, caramel malts, and a finish that lasts for days. Insanely drinkable dispite the abv.....and thank you Kane for being so close to me! Outstanding and maybe one day this will be bottled for the lucky folk outside of NJ

Had on tap at Surf Taco in Jackson NJ a few weeks ago. I was floored by this beer. Nice piney citrus aroma with a small white head. Thought this was just going to be a high gravity bitter bomb but the taste was very well balanced. Very resinous and crisp from the dry hops with a touch of malt to give it a little back bone. Very sessionable, i had about 4 or 5 pints and could have had another but i digress. Cant wait to experience this brewery blossom into something awesome within the next few years.

Aroma is fantastic with brilliant grapefruit juice, orange zest, apricot and papaya. Just the tiniest hint of skunky weed. Pours bright orange (the bartender didn’t provide a head but I imagine it would be nice). Taste is big and bitter with grapefruit zest, lemongrass, lemon zest and Turkish delight. Legit!
