COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our last tank was filled with our American-style IPA called Head High. More specifically it’s closer to a west coast style IPA. This style is typically lighter in color and drier in body then a traditional American-style IPA. We used a mix of American two-row and German pilsner for the base malt and added a small amount of light English crystal and Carapils malt for some color and body. We used Columbus and Chinook in the boil, and Ahtanum, Citra and Centennial in both the whirlpool and for dry hopping. The resulting beer is not too bitter but hoppy and aromatic. At 6.5% ABV it’s manageable enough that you can have a few pints. We did a lot of pilot batches for this beer. The reason is that we were unable to get our hands on a couple of the hop varieties that we’ve been using in our IPAs for years—specifically Simcoe and Amarillo. So we had to tweak the IPA recipe we planned to use and began playing with different hop varieties and combinations. We are really happy with the combination we came up with and think this is a better beer than the original.

Nicely balanced bitterness with no harsh or abrasive flavors, hops do not overpower the malt to the point of tasting like bitter water. Nice malt backbone with a very aromatic nose. Easy to drink IPA. Well done, impressive.

Pours clearer golden with a big creamy white head. Aroma is so delicious bringing sweet citrus big and juicy to the nose. Flavor is the same, big juicy citrus and zesty hops that never seem to bite. It is big and smooth, so nice as a single IPA.

On cask at Maloney’s. Dry and sweet thanks to the addition of locally grown honey. Nice mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is fantastic with brilliant grapefruit juice, orange zest, apricot and papaya. Just the tiniest hint of skunky weed. Pours bright orange (the bartender didn’t provide a head but I imagine it would be nice). Taste is big and bitter with grapefruit zest, lemongrass, lemon zest and Turkish delight. Legit!

Only a small sample at the AC Beer Fest, but I went back for more. Also my favorite brew this year. Pours amber with a white head. The aroma has a big hop presence with pine and citrus. The flavor is nicely hoppy and not too sweet.

Very flavorful IPA with a nose of grapefruit and grass. The hops are pronounced and the palate is average. I had this off the draft and I haven’t yet seen it in a bottle.

On tap at The Office in Westfield with mike67. Poured an orange hued amber with a medium lasting white head, some lacing. Aroma and Taste of pine hops, tangy grapefruit, citrus with some splashes of orange, some caramel malt for balance. A medium crisp body, good carbonation. Finish is sweet caramel malt, pine citrus hops with a bit of tangy grapefruit and orange flavor. A well balanced and enjoyable brew.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2013 On tap at Mexican Food Factory w annie, hazy glowing orange pour. Medium sized off white head. Very lasting with nice lacing rings. Aromas and taste of bitter juicy hops, lots of resin, grapefruit, wood, orange, pine. Sticky mouthfeel, medium body. Best hoppy beer made in NJ. Boat beer from Carton is a close second for me but this thing is so sessionable and juiced out. Hopheads best be searching this out.
