Growler. Pours black in color with a huge foamy tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and a slight hazelnut nuttiness. Taste is bitter coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and some light raisin notes.

Had this on tap at my favorite spot in the world, Watermark in Asbury Park. The taps are out of sight behind the bar so by the time it was served the head was virtually nonexistent but there was a slight lacing left around the perimeter that was a light espresso color. The smell was nice and sweet with a huge coffee and chocolate aroma. The taste mirrored the aroma with some nice acidity on the finish to curb the sweetness of the malt. That acidity also complemented the texture on the palate, making this an exceptionally smooth brew. IMO this brew blows the doors of Ballast Point’s Victory of the Seas which is a very similar imperial coffee porter. Well done Kane. I can’t wait to see your young brewery grow into one of the heavy hitters of the craft beer industry. Cheers!

Pours black with a small white head. Aroma is milk chocolate, roast, fresh coffee beans. Taste is sweet with coffee bitters mixed in for good measure. Smooth and creamy. Excellent. Plus it reminded me of Radiohead’s song....Morning Bell’s last lines:
The lights are on but nobody’s home
Everybody wants to be a
Everyone wants to be a friend
Nobody wants to be a slave
Walking walking walking walking...

Draught at the brewery. Pours out black with a small white head. Aroma is of chocolate, complex earth deep roast coffee. Taste is complex, dark roast coffee, chocolate, earthy coffee, light bitterness lingering in there on the finish. No sight of a big ABV. Really great coffee flavor

Pours thin but opaque black. The aroma is dominated by coffee with some nice bready chocolate base. On the palate, the coffee almost tastes like stale, burned coffee that's been left on the warmer for about 18 hours but somehow it's decently well balanced. Not too bad.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 dmac (3166) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - JAN 18, 2013
Poured a deep black body with a foamy beige head. Aroma had slight green peppers, burnt toast, black coffee with lots of sweetener, some fermenting dark fruits. Palate is nice with a medium to full mouthfeel, good carbonation, slight finish of heat but it’s almost masked by the sweetness. Flavor of dark coffee grounds, sugar, dark well done toast, nice bitterness, dark fruit skins. Overall a very solid beer but the aroma needs a slight tweaking.

Draft. Dark pour with creamy tan head. Flavor starts like a milk stout but then finishes with a bit of a bite, mineral and malts then don’t seem to belong.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2013 American style porter, on tap at Tapestre in Somerville NJ. Clean lines. Pours black with a beige head, medium head retention. Aroma is mild coffee and minerals, with a dark roast, attack is very smooth and thick; full-body roasted coffee taste and nicely balanced sweet malt to compliment. Big beer. Beautiful smooth Kane finish with just a bit of mineral taste on the tongue. Excellent beer-to be expected from Kane. If you like the big American double stouts, you’ll love this.
