Tidal Series.
A favorite morning stop of ours since we moved into the neighborhood a few years ago is Rook Coffee Roasters of Monmouth County; conveniently located just around the corner from the brewery. They roast and brew their coffees with the same dedication to quality and craftsmanship that we focus on here at Kane. We couldn’t think of a better group of like minded people to work with on a collaborative project. The result is Morning Bell, our imperial milk porter brewed with their dark roast Sumatra coffee. We added a healthy amount of milk sugar to an already complex, dark malt bill to sweeten and balance the bold flavors and roasty bitterness of the coffee. The result of this collaboration is a full bodied porter with big bold flavors and remarkable smoothness.

Bottle split at CBC Clerko from an IP trade with JTClockwork, 06/01/15. Light black with a decent tan covering that holds up well. Nose is earthy roast, lactic notes, dark fruit rinds, chocolate, coffee, dark red berry. Taste comprises more lactic strokes, brown sugar, light coffee, earthy, charr, dark fruit rinds. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, earthy cocoa and charr in the close. Ok, just ... Ok.

Tasting at Craft Clerkenwell. Thanks to Senior Bois. Opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Mellow dark malts, trace of coffee. There is a dominant flavour on the back end which is burned milk and it’s pretty unpleasant. Finishes semi dry. Seems to be just me that doesn’t like this but that burned milk flavour is making me want to spit this out - bleeurgh!

Bottle shared at craft clerko. Thanks to Colin. Aroma is earthy coffee bean, milky choc, praline and spicy pepper. Dark brown coloured viscous pour with loose halo of tan head. Flavour is milky, stale nutty praline, little choc. Little musty note. Palayr is semi sweet, milky, light tart, moderate carbonation. Interesting.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Colin. Pours black with a foamy tan head. The aroma holds some coffee, tangy berries, earth and wood. Medium sweet flavor with hints of rubber, burnt caramel, chocolate, tangy dark fruits. Full bodied, oily, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, a little sticky, with dark malts, old wood, leather. Interesting.

Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours near black with a medium tan head. The nose is sweet, milk chocolate, cocoa, sweet coffee, lactose, vanilla and coffee cake. The taste is bitter-sweet, sweet, earthy roast, toast, creamy, wood, light alcohol, coffee cake, toffee and light char with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smooth, nice balance and rather quaffable. Not a whole lot to it, but rather tasty.

Sample at GABF 10/04/2014, thanks to my BIL for assistance with note-taking. Jet black color with a medium tan head that dissipates steadily. Patchy lacing. Aroma of roast malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium to full body with a roasted coffee character and notes of charred malt and dark chocolate. The finish is roasty with a coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Beer smelled great. Body is way to heavy and way to sweat for this beer. After that the coffee is adding to much roasted, astringent flavors. The sweatiness and bitterness did not balance each other. This beer just became overly sweat and bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler from the source thanks to Fitz. Wow. Blown away. Where do I start? Pours a dark murky brown color with light tan head. The aroma is simply intoxicating. Rich chocolate and coffee roast notes with some vanilla and caramel underneath and some earthiness from the hops. A soft rich caramel taste with tons of chocolate hitting the tongue next before encountering a perfect, delicate hit of coffee and hop spice, with tons of chocolate and coffee on the backend leaving you with that gentle roast. Some grapefruit is hidden but there. I am simply amazed at the abv as the alcohol is well hidden. My only critique would be the mouthfeel as the beer is medium to light in that regard. But that is nit picking. This is a top flight beer. It’s Founders Breakfast Stout somehow done better. Kudos.

Black pour orange hue tan creamy head and light oily sticky lacing ..... aroma of really nice fresh coffee, vanilla, chocolate, and light lactose .... taste is of sweet lactose sugar, fresh coffee, roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate and a nice bitter earthy roasted bite ..... mouthfeel is oily and it has a nice roasted lingering bitter bite .... great aroma on this beer and a solid imperial porter
