A favorite morning stop of ours since we moved into the neighborhood a few years ago is Rook Coffee Roasters of Monmouth County; conveniently located just around the corner from the brewery. They roast and brew their coffees with the same dedication to quality and craftsmanship that we focus on here at Kane. We couldn’t think of a better group of like minded people to work with on a collaborative project. The result is Morning Bell, our imperial milk porter brewed with their dark roast Sumatra coffee. We added a healthy amount of milk sugar to an already complex, dark malt bill to sweeten and balance the bold flavors and roasty bitterness of the coffee. The result of this collaboration is a full bodied porter with big bold flavors and remarkable smoothness.

Draft. Jet black, caramel bordering, no head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, some pecan notes. Taste - if you took Hershey’s syrup, combined with some light-roast coffee and poured it over some freshly cooked oatmeal, this is what you get....in the best way imaginable. Really solid oatmeal, chocolate and coffee notes - all of which are distinct and enjoyable on their own.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2015 Growler from Kane. Dark cola, basically black. Aroma is dark roast black coffee with sweet vanilla. The taste follows suit with a sweet bitter finish. The palate has a perfect medium body that isn’t overly rich, but not thin either. The carb is very low. Excellent job by Kane! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft pint, Corner Table, Vauxhall NJ. Opaque black pour, moderate head. Strong pleasant coffee nose, slight milky sweetness, bit of bitter mineral aftertaste. Overall a well balanced combination of malt and coffee. Definitely one to do again. At that ABV, one pint is enough.

Pours a jet black with thick head. Coffee beans, hints of chocolate on the nose. Chalky bitterness with hints of candied sugar and dark fruit. Really good porter (though not as good as the cinnamon maple version).

Bottle thanks to jtclockwork. Poured into a juice glass and served with breakfast on a weekend away with friends. Pours dark brown with mocha head. Aroma is more chocolate than coffee; sweet, milky, and with a spicy vietnamese cinnamon. Fairly sweet, somewhat roasty, twangy finish that makes me pause to wonder if this is the product they intended. Light-medium body, average carbonation, smooth and milky. Overall: coffee was really muted, and this was basically an imperial sweet milk stout. Nice.

Pour is black with a mostly tight caramel head. Nose is a fair amount of roasted malt. There are mild notes of chocolate and coffee with a fair bit of malt sweetness. Taste is coffee and roasted malt. More chocolate and sweetness than the nose, some vanilla and lots of sweetness in back. The coffee and roast linger through the finish with a nice amount of carb on a moderate body and creamy feel.

Black pour with a tan head. The aroma has some nice coffee and chocolate notes. The flavor is similar. I get some roasted malt, cream and oat notes in addition to the great chocolate and coffee. Medium carbonation and thick mouthfeel. Really like this one.
