Tidal Series.
A favorite morning stop of ours since we moved into the neighborhood a few years ago is Rook Coffee Roasters of Monmouth County; conveniently located just around the corner from the brewery. They roast and brew their coffees with the same dedication to quality and craftsmanship that we focus on here at Kane. We couldnít think of a better group of like minded people to work with on a collaborative project. The result is Morning Bell, our imperial milk porter brewed with their dark roast Sumatra coffee. We added a healthy amount of milk sugar to an already complex, dark malt bill to sweeten and balance the bold flavors and roasty bitterness of the coffee. The result of this collaboration is a full bodied porter with big bold flavors and remarkable smoothness.

(Thanks, Ed! "Ed5388") Bottle. A- Coffee, subtle floral notes, roasty, slighly bitter, dry cocoa. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Coffee, chocolate, roasty, slightly bitter, very subtle blueberry. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- What an excellent damn beer this was. The cap was on so tight I broke my opener and thought this better be delicious. It was. Everything was perfectly balanced and a beautiful beer in every way. Hard to find anything wrong with this and I usually am a tough rater.

750-ml bottle from brewery, picked up 2/20. Hype train was at 100mph on this so I had to open one. Pours black with hefty tan head. Aroma of coffee and vanilla and ash. Flavor is - umami! This beer coats the tongue and engages every part of it with velvety, chocolatey coffee love. I donít like milk stouts and porters as a rule, but here is one that doesnít make me think of spoiled milk at all. This beer probably has the most satisfying mouthfeel of any beer Iíve had - sweet and almost but not quite salty. The hype train has a new passenger.

Growler from the source thanks to Fitz. Wow. Blown away. Where do I start? Pours a dark murky brown color with light tan head. The aroma is simply intoxicating. Rich chocolate and coffee roast notes with some vanilla and caramel underneath and some earthiness from the hops. A soft rich caramel taste with tons of chocolate hitting the tongue next before encountering a perfect, delicate hit of coffee and hop spice, with tons of chocolate and coffee on the backend leaving you with that gentle roast. Some grapefruit is hidden but there. I am simply amazed at the abv as the alcohol is well hidden. My only critique would be the mouthfeel as the beer is medium to light in that regard. But that is nit picking. This is a top flight beer. Itís Founders Breakfast Stout somehow done better. Kudos.

Pours black with light brown head. A strong coffee and malt aroma. A strong coffee taste with hints of chocolate, dark fruits, grains, and malts. A lingering coffee aftertaste.

[Tap @ dmacís] Nearly opaque black with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, coffee, and chocolate. Taste of coffee, roasted malts, lactose, cocoa, and a sweeter finish.

Bottle. Pours very dark brown with tan head. Nose and taste of decadent coffee, chocolate milk, roast coffee, milk sugar, cappuccino chips and light vanilla. Medium body. So decadent and smooth. Great beer.

Thanks again to Dave for picking this up for me from Kane. Appearance is dark black, thick consistency, with a medium beige head. Bigger bubbles stick at the sides if the glass, nice lacing in the middle. Aroma is all coffee, roasted beans, espresso like quality. Taste is also mostly coffee, and good coffee. Iíll have to arrange to check out Rook in the near future. Feel is light compared to how it looks. Light carbonation. Would go well with breakfast. Only knock is that strong coffee dominates the palate, not leaving much room for any other beer-like tastes and smells. ??

Pours black with a one finger tan head with decent lacing. Aroma is of coffee, dark coco, burnt caramel, roasted malts, and some light vanilla. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi sweet, medium long finish. Overall,a pretty tasty imperial porter that tastes a lot like founders breakfast stout.
