Ripple is an American-style Session Ale. When we began conceptualizing this beer we were looking for the best platform to showcase a relatively new hop called Nelson Sauvin from New Zealand. We first began experimenting with Nelson when we were brewing single hop beers for the 1st annual ” Wolf Among The Seas,” our educational hop experience. We really enjoyed the subtle flavors of gooseberries and sauvignon blanc grapes that characterize this hop, but because the flavors are delicate and require large amounts of hops, we thought the lighter malt bill of a session ale provided the best base on which to build this beer. Maintaining body in such a low ABV beer was very important to us, so we added a large amount of low crystals and flaked oats to our base of Pilsner malt. Nelson is a unique hop, but to avoid a finished product that was one dimensional, we rounded out the hop flavor with a small amount of Simcoe for bittering and added Amarillo and Citra to the finish and dry hop. Ripple has the body, flavor, complexity, and the hop profile you expect from our beers–all at a sessionable 4.6%.

on tap-white, yellow/gold. A-tropical/pineapple/spice. T-tropical/pineapple/spice hops, some lt malt. Good effervescence/tingle. Followed by a visit to our nearby rest stop that lasted longer than our tasting.

Lovely session ale. Bright fruity hops on the nose with some sweetness from the malts. Nice tropical fruit and wine notes on huge palate. Super easy drinker and quite flavorful.

On tap at Pjs pour house, pours dull clearish golden with small non-lasting head. Aroma is very tropical hop forward with some pine, pineapple, and crisp malts. Flavor is nice but lacking a lot of depth. Mouthfeel is too light and over carbonated as well. Reminds me of fresh all day but slightly better and more pilsner like. Nice beer but lacks the look and flavor of a top notch American pale. I’ll stick with fresh boat beer.

On tap at the Mexican Food Factory. Aroma is great citrus, passion fruit, and kiwi. Pours super light blonde with a nice medium head. Taste is great tropical fruits, peach, and lemon zest. Light in the mouth and downright quaffable. Perfect sessionable IPA. I hope they mass market this one.

Tap at the brewery. Pours lightly hazy pale orange with a medium, frothy white head, medium retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is biscuit malt, pear and peach esters, earthy and herbal hops. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness, light malt and fruity esters with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

On tap at Tapastre, Somerville NJ. Pours medium good with a nice head, which sticks around for a while and becomes thin but remains. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy and bright for a session pale ale - and the attack makes it that much harder to believe. Smooth, gentle hops and nice balanced malt body, fresh gentle hop finish. WOW. Best session pale I’ve tried.

Growler from Kane. Pours out a lightly cloudy amber-ish color with a nice white head. aroma is of mango, light pine, orange peel and some mild bready grains. Taste is complex and well defined for the low ABV. Taste is of tropical fruits, orange peel, a solid level of bitterness, mild grainy breads, finishes with a lingering bitterness. Tasty session.

Draft. Hazy dark gold with a 1 finger white head. Aroma is pine and tropical fruit. Taste is piney, resinous and buttery with strong pineapple notes. Palate is full and rich. This is shockingly flavorful for a session beer. Another home run for Kane.
