COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

It’s golden with a white head. The aroma has notes of grain, bread, light vegetables. The flavor has a light sweetness and notes of bread, grain, light fruit and flower, malt and the finish is fairly dry.

Draft at Fränkisches Bierfest in Nürnberg.
Surprisingly hazy for a hell, seemingly naturtrüb which would put this one in with zwickelbier, though I no clue if they filter the bottles. Bright, vibrant splat hop nose of lemon and pepper with a satisfying and rich hay / cracker / grain cleanliness. Looks, smells and tastes like zwickelpils; substantially hoppier than you expect from helles, but this is Franconia so calling something a hell does not imply an intended fit to the Munich Helles style. Juicy lemon citrus, creamy carbonation, quenching acidity, mostly dry soft malt body. I could say the nose is a bit quiet at first, but with cold beer in a cold mug there’s not much to get. With the glass heated under a warm water faucet, the aroma becomes much more expressive, the juicy hops jump to life and there’s no hint of any off-notes. With German beer much of the time a crapshoot it is nice to find these beers in good shape at a festival. The Zwickelbier in the bottle last year was disappointing, and the dunkel served along side the Hell was in poor shape.

Draught at the Fränkisches Bierfest Nürnberg 2013. Head is fully lasting. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (honeysuckle flowers, herbs), with light notes of lemon/lime zest, spearmint. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation. Surprisingly good. I even went back for a second pour, which is the only beer at the fest besides stuff from Simon and Gaenstaller that I can say that about. Super clean and balanced with an enticing nose. More pilsner-ish than hell-ish.

Bottle 50cl. w. swing top @ home.
Light unclear medium to dark yellow color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, grain, hay, toasted, light hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, and a light peppery finish. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20090609]

(swing top bottle) Slightly hazy, golden colour with a mid-sized foamy white head. Slightly sweet and sour doughy malty nose. Sweet bitter flavour with a sourish tang, light to medium bodied with a medium carbonation. Pale malty, doughy taste; quite dry and slightly malty finish with poor hoppy notes. Boring (24.X.08).
