COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
F.U.N. Series - 001, 005 and 010
Merlot Barrel Aged DIPA. Sexy and smooth with legs for days, Bodacious is sure to arouse curiosity. After aging in barrels for several months, the hop aroma recedes slightly, giving way to a rich, velvety malt backbone combined with oak flavors from the barrel. Finally, upon swallowing, a delicate, lingering bitterness remains on the tongue. So enjoy this limited release in a group or in private...

I generally prefer to overwhelm my senses with darker, maltier fare but this is the sort of DIPA that keeps tempting me to the, uh, "Light Side". Great balance and interesting vinous notes from the wine barrel aging.

Bottle as 010 bodacious. Big frothy 2 finger head pour. Amber orange color. Aroma of red wine? Really didn’t expect that immediately, but it was aged in red wine barrels. Rosey flora smell, malty, and some light hopy notes. Brilliant move with the red wine barrels No bitterness. Medium body. Way too drinkable for a double IPA. This can go down quick. This is a wine drinkers IPA. Clever beer. Big fan.

Bottle. Pours hazy reddish amber, medium puffy beige head, dissipates slowly with nice lacing. Aroma is caramel, some oak, cardboard, and bit of vinous. Flavor is medium sweet, medium bitter, oaky, piney, vinous. A bit harsh and biting. Medium body. Somewhat hot.

In stemware from tap. Pours a nice brown red with just a bit of head. Faint sweet aroma. Mouth feel is very light with some refreshing carbonation. Taste is hoppy and sweet in equal combinations but neither is too intense. The merlot cask really comes through. A yummy DIPA that doesn’t beat you over the head!

markwise (4524) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - AUG 16, 2014
Bottle courtesy of one of the fine members of the Tampa Crew. Pours a hazy amber with a white head. Nose is big citrus, some caramel, noticeable vinous character with oak and wine with hints of apricot. Flavor starts off with caramel and assertive citrus hops then fading to reveal vinous oak and red wine, finishing of somewhat dry with the wine lingering. Medium in body and an interesting combination of flavors overall.

Pours an amber orange with a thick white head. Aroma of red wine and loads of malt. Taste is bitter, hoppy, loads of red wine. This is weird in an interesting way. Glad to have tried it but not something I’d go back to

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Colin. Hazy amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is crisp and light. Food fine carbonation. Light malt. Whisper of vanilla. Light marmalade. Little hop and wood bitterness. Light red wine tang. Light bitter finish. Nice combo of marmalade and red wine. Tasty beer but really wants some dry hopping to bring the dipa character back. Hides the abv well.

Bottle split at Bruce’s Pad, from an IP trade with a real life Texan, as FUN 010, 24/06/14. Lightly hazed orange amber with a a moderate light beige covering that retains well. Nose us juicy fruits, caramel malts, light tropicana, dark red berry fruits, BA woody tones. Taste comprises mango, grapefruit, tangy apricot, light booze, red wine rinse, Ribena berries, light pine needle - emphasis on ’needle’. Medium + body, fine carbonation, fairly mellow hop bitterness in the close. Decent enough offering. More of a DIPA than #9 in this series but still lacks some hop venom, again could benefit from dry hopping. I iliked this one though.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Colin. Pours clear amber-gold with a frothy off-white head. The nose has ripe citrus, pale bread, some pine needles. Medium sweet flavor with some booze, berries, orange, bread, a bit of piney bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish, some piney bitterness, ripe orange, pale wood. So so.

The taste is boozy, candy, alcohol, wood, earth, dried fruits, wood, vinous, resin, wood and stuff with a dry, boozy finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Rough around the edges, but ok.
