4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Review of No. 5: This isnít a thin porter. Chalk full of robust, roasted malts and dense darkness, this may as well be an imperial stout. Topped with a beautiful, dense, beige colored head, itís easy on the nose with a light, but balanced, bouquet of roasted malts and bourbon. I was expecting more bourbon in the nose, but this is nice and mellow. The bourbon takes front stage in the mouth, however, and the lighter, porter body keeps roasted malt weight minimal. Light roasted malts, chocolate, and a soft bourbon flavor hover above the center of the tongue. Some chocolate presents itself up front, but it doesnít linger long, as bourbon still runs the show. Itís a great balance... The bourbon is definitive, but mellow enough to not overpower the lightness of the body. Itís incredibly soft, creamy, and perfectly bodied. Although I think this is, all around, perfectly balanced. It could even handle a little more alcohol for a cozy, warm bite to compliment its strong bourbon presence. Still, this is wonderful as it is. Classy, mellow, and it warms the belly. Makes me happy on a cold November during a "winter" storm!

Bottle thanks to Marcin. Burnt malt and vanilla bourbon aroma. Tastes like a bourbon nestle crunch bar. No heat. Very smooth. Damn good stuff

(BBH 007 aged in Four Ross barrels) aroma was mildly sweet, roasted malts, chocolate, and bourbon. Pours a solid black with a tan ring and no lacing. The taste was similar to the nose. Bourbon sweetness, vanilla, toasted marls, and suggestions of cherries. Medium-ful body with moderate carbonation. Smooth pleasing mouthfeel. Overall, since I have had only one othe Karbach brew, this was was a nice addition to the list. Iím up for 008!

Bottle at home, courtesy of Eric. Thanks man! Pour is pitch black with a huge brown head and great lacing. Big fig, raisins, dark cherries, cocoa, maple syrup, bourbon, light vanilla, and roasty aroma. Taste is bread, coconut, roasted malt, cocoa, a hint of vanilla, plums, light bourbon, and burnt caramel. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Damn decent BA porter.

3.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a dark, dark brown with a dark tan head. Aroma is vanilla, oak, chocolate, roasted malts... just overall delicious. The taste, however... is dominated by alcohol. Not my thing. Itís really a shame, because this beer was so promising.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Growler labeled 007. A bit over-carbed. So much barrel: bourbon-filled nose, stout is in the background as barrel takes the spotlight. I prefer barrels to accent the base, but to each his own.

Got in a trade with icetrauma. 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; No. 005, bottled in May 2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2 finger dense dark tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, brown sugar, toast, vanilla, toffee, clove, oak, bourbon, light char, light coffee, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, light char, toast, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, clove, oak, bourbon, light coffee, and roasted earthiness. Light roast/barrel bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, toast, toffee, vanilla, clove, oak, brown sugar, light char, light coffee, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity of dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/barrel flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and moderately slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent barrel aged porter! All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and barrel flavors; and quite smooth to sip on for the high ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Location: 22 oz bottle from BRC Gastropub, 12/11/13, as 007 Bourbon Barrel Hellfighter
Aroma: The nose is bourbony and a little sweet, roasted malts, coffee! and plenty of smoke
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a frothy brown head and heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is more roasty and smokey then sweet, bourbony, with a fairly bitter close
Palate: Has a medium body (feels light in this style), soft carbonation, and a little heat
Very new example of the style. I enjoyed this beer. It is pretty darn easy to drink with this level of booziness and ABV. It doesnít feel 10+% at all. Iíd love to cellar one, I think this would age well.
Iím not sure this is a Connery level 007, but itís certainly leaps and bounds above a Dalton!
