Cask. Darkest amber, almost black, borders opaque. Thin off white head. Bitter. Middle is chocolate malt massaged to a gentle sweetness. Finish jumps in with a strong, but balanced bitterness.

Deep chalky brown with a tan foamy head. Spicy hoppy aroma. Malty body, creamy texture but bitter flavor with roasted malt. Pretty good.

One of my absolute favorite beers. Pours black with a light tan head. It has a hoppy flavor with a mild coffee aftertaste. Flavorful and smooth. I definitely recommend it!

22oz bottle from Zinister. Deep brown color with a minimal head. Nice aroma with grapefruit, more orange citrus, roast coffee, and some chocolate. Wow! Taste is a bit different. More citrus with less malt. Slightly thin.

Black colored pour. Big off-white head. Plenty of lacing left behind. Huge hoppy aroma with some fruity notes and malt and bread. Huge hoppy flavor with the same fruity malt notes. Finishes a little dry yet very fruity and with some hops. Damn good.

Pretty tasty brew. A black IPA? I’ve never had one. Black coffee hue. Hoppy notes. Light head. Smooth wash. No cloying aftertaste. Definitely not dry. It has a warmth to it, that it fits perfect any season. Enjoyable. Karbach keeps adding to its impressive brew catalogue.

Roasty, chocolate aroma with piney hops... pours black with a nice frothy head. Taste is citrusy hops, with roasted malts in the background. Overall a great beer, I’m a fan for sure.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle. Strong fresh hop mix with smoky roasted malt aroma. Deep dark color and mocha brown small to medium head with small retention but adequate carbonation.
Lots of initial hoppyness and then chocolate roast along with slight alcohol and smoky/bacon finish that’s really well balanced.
Clean slightly dry mouth feel.
Quite a surprise. All around very good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle:   Deep cola in color, thin to moderate sudsy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Faint mildly burnt malts, dark chocolate, very little hop presence.   Smooth on the tongue, not as burnt or roasted as the nose suggested.   Very toasty, pale bitterness, but again, lacking in much hop aspect.   Seems very minor in terms of bitterness or aroma from anything hop associated.   Has a slight citrus or pith aspect, but both are light and neither lending too much bitterness.   A mild Black IPA this one is.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Had I drank this blind, I probably wouldn’t even say Black IPA, but likely simply 3/4 IPA.   The roasted malt as compared to others is so minor it doesn’t play much of a factor.   Bitterness is there, but is moderate and on the PNW Pale Ale side.   Thankfully, no pasture like so many others have.   This is a very mild example of a Black IPA.   Fairly clean, but needs more roast and more of a citrusy IPA punch.   Thanks Bill!
