Black colored pour. Big off-white head. Plenty of lacing left behind. Huge hoppy aroma with some fruity notes and malt and bread. Huge hoppy flavor with the same fruity malt notes. Finishes a little dry yet very fruity and with some hops. Damn good.

Pretty tasty brew. A black IPA? Iíve never had one. Black coffee hue. Hoppy notes. Light head. Smooth wash. No cloying aftertaste. Definitely not dry. It has a warmth to it, that it fits perfect any season. Enjoyable. Karbach keeps adding to its impressive brew catalogue.

Roasty, chocolate aroma with piney hops... pours black with a nice frothy head. Taste is citrusy hops, with roasted malts in the background. Overall a great beer, Iím a fan for sure.

22oz bottle. Strong fresh hop mix with smoky roasted malt aroma. Deep dark color and mocha brown small to medium head with small retention but adequate carbonation. Lots of initial hoppyness and then chocolate roast along with slight alcohol and smoky/bacon finish thatís really well balanced. Clean slightly dry mouth feel. Quite a surprise. All around very good.

Bottle:   Deep cola in color, thin to moderate sudsy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Faint mildly burnt malts, dark chocolate, very little hop presence.   Smooth on the tongue, not as burnt or roasted as the nose suggested.   Very toasty, pale bitterness, but again, lacking in much hop aspect.   Seems very minor in terms of bitterness or aroma from anything hop associated.   Has a slight citrus or pith aspect, but both are light and neither lending too much bitterness.   A mild Black IPA this one is.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Had I drank this blind, I probably wouldnít even say Black IPA, but likely simply 3/4 IPA.   The roasted malt as compared to others is so minor it doesnít play much of a factor.   Bitterness is there, but is moderate and on the PNW Pale Ale side.   Thankfully, no pasture like so many others have.   This is a very mild example of a Black IPA.   Fairly clean, but needs more roast and more of a citrusy IPA punch.   Thanks Bill!

Black in the glass. Slight hoppy sweet smoky aroma. Clean citrus flavor followed by roasted malt note. Overall, a fairly decent brew...

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, thick, three centimetre tall, nice and frothy tan head. Aroma of alcohol, roasted malt, oatmeal, nuts, caramel and tons of nice hops layered with pine, grass, herbs and a bit of resin. Medium-bodied; Deep dark malt flavour with roasty notes, some earthiness, but a lot of caramel and even slightly smoked malt grain flavour with a nice hop backbone showing pine and grass with a smooth, but deep finish. Aftertaste shows a great blend of stronger and grassier hops meshed perfectly with the roasty malt, nut and smoke/burnt notes that would couple well with barbecue. Overall, a nice black IPA with tons of flavour and complexity, all showing a great balance. Great to sample and I wish I could get this locally - a very well made Black IPA that shows well throughout - Iím very glad I brought this home with me from Texas. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Central Market in Houston, Texas on 10-August-2013 for US$5.35 sampled at home in Washington on 17-October-2013.

Location/Date:Bottle spit with Dave on October 11th, 2013.

Appearance: Pours an opaque black.
Aroma: Aroma of pine, light roast.
Taste: Medium bitterness, light roast for balance. Really nice.
Palate:Medium to medium light body, lingering hop aftertaste. Not as thick as others of the style - which I prefer.

Summary: First off, thanks Ben! This was a really nice black IPA. It was not overly heavy or boozy like some of the style can be.

Whiffs of citrus anda tropical fruit greet the nose. A ruddy dark brown pour with a voluminous tan head and loads of lacing. The taste is fruity to begin with but yeilds to a rewarding hoppy bitter finish. Nicely blanced notes of tropical fruit and biscuit malt. Medium body and carbonation. Overall, tasty and very drinkable - a rewarding session brew. Enjoyable and not over the top in either malts or hops. Would drink again.
