Thanks, Bobby. Dark brown pour with a khaki head. Aroma of roasted malt, lemon zest, herbs, and pine. Some coffee, orange zest, and toasted nuts. The flavor is roasty, lightly sweet, and bitter. Pine, lemon, orange, and herbs. Just a bit of coffee and nuts.

651mL thanks to t0rin0 or someone in the LA crew. Pours clear dark amber. Not a lot of retention. Nose is cheesy, dusty, not so fresh. Taste is nutty, overly bitter, Brazil nut, dusty and stale. Palate is dusty, harsh. No thanks.

Tap at the Hay Merchant, Houston, 21/05/13. Mid black with a good sized light tan head. Nose is juicy jammy hops, pine, cocoa dusting, blackcurrant, grapefruit. Taste comprises hop, pine bite, bitter grapefruit, light mineral notes, touch of roast. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, hoppy bite in a dryish finish. A great Black IPA !

On tap at Flying Saucer Houston. Pours a near clear dark brown with a brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of hops with pine and grass notes backed by a light roasted note. Flavor is more balanced with roast and pine hop with a lasting deep toast int finish.

22 oz bottle. Bottled 08/07/13. (Spec’s) Galveston, TX.
Black colour with a bit of red hue and small tan head. Aroma: Sweet milky stout with some hoppy bitterness. Quite earthy. Flavour: Hoppy bitterness, strong bitterness... roasted malt, milky sweetness and mild coffee. Very strong bitterness. Not necessarily the most balanced Black IPA on the planet. Very flavoursome.

Bottle:   Deep cola in color, thin to moderate sudsy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Faint mildly burnt malts, dark chocolate, very little hop presence.   Smooth on the tongue, not as burnt or roasted as the nose suggested.   Very toasty, pale bitterness, but again, lacking in much hop aspect.   Seems very minor in terms of bitterness or aroma from anything hop associated.   Has a slight citrus or pith aspect, but both are light and neither lending too much bitterness.   A mild Black IPA this one is.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Had I drank this blind, I probably wouldn’t even say Black IPA, but likely simply 3/4 IPA.   The roasted malt as compared to others is so minor it doesn’t play much of a factor.   Bitterness is there, but is moderate and on the PNW Pale Ale side.   Thankfully, no pasture like so many others have.   This is a very mild example of a Black IPA.   Fairly clean, but needs more roast and more of a citrusy IPA punch.   Thanks Bill!

Pint @ Houston Flying Saucer before the Old Ale tasting .. . deep black .. medium head, impressive lacing .. . nice and roasty, smooth and sessionable .. . . Remember when I giggled at his Sherlock Holmes hat? He sulked for a week and then closed his detective agency.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a large tan head. The aroma has some chocolate and a bit of pine, as well as some toasted malt. The flavor is similar. I get some bitterness from the resinous, piney hops. There is also a hint of orange, as well as some toasted malt and a bit of chocolate. Medium, creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not a fan of Black IPAs, but I liked this one.
