Itís a job. And a hazardous one at that. Benefits, you ask? I hardly think so. But the show must go on. So, itís with bravado that the Rodeo Clown takes his place in the arena lights. Whether or not heís insane is not important right now. Itís with grit and intensity that the Clown steps in the path of almost certain destruction. Our Double IPA is much the same. At 9.5% ABV, Rodeo Clown Double IPA coats the tongue in bitterness and packs a punch that will knock a bull on its ass . Intense and maybe a little insane drink carefully, but drink often. Ladies and Gentlemen, let the show begin.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2014 If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck. Well rodeo clown is not really an IPA even though it looks and smells like one. The hoppiness was bitter only. It tastes like a one dimensional barley wine. This is not a bad beer, but it is in the lower quartile of IPAs out there

12oz can from Zinister. Deep amber with a beige head. Aroma of stale hops, a bit dusty, a bit citric, a bit earthy, with a bit of malt. Flavor has some a bit of sweetish malt, caramel, light fruitiness, some citric and slightly earthy and floral hops, a bit stale, and some bitterness. Medium-bodied.

Dark brown/red pour. Thick tan head with great lacing. Way too bitter and boozy for my liking.

Amber color & a bit cloudy. Not much of an aroma. The bitterness is balanced well. Very tasty double IPA that I'd be glad to drink anytime ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark with white head. Very strong bitterness. It grows on you though. This beer is decent but too overwhelming without anything to balance it out.,

On draft. Aroma of apple. Alcohol comes through at the start, gives way to some tart, oily tangerine. OK.

On tap at Yard House Houston. It pours a hazy, orange-brown body under a thin light beige head leaving curtains. The aroma is very fruity and piney, grapefruit, some resins and peach and a faint meaty touch too. Itís pleasantly carbonated, medium to full bodied, and medium dry. Itís quite bitter, grapefruit, pine cones and some peach hints, as well as citrus peel and some malty notes. Lasting finish almost entirely on the hoppy side. Overall itís a nice beer, tasteful and easy drinkable, but lacking some depth. 131112

Draft. Rich amber beer with a cream head. Malt and light earth aroma with light pine and light grapefruit. Light grapefruit and light pine flavor with light malt. Medium bodied. Decent bitterness. Light grapefruit and light pine linger with light malt.

Can. Pours a hazy red-amber with a high, large-grained, cream-colored sticky head that leaves copious lace. Nose is mild for a double, with minty herbal notes counterpointed by an odd medicinal or chemical element along with some faint grapefruit. More grapefruit bitterness on the tongue, balanced by caramel malt -- but thereís that medicinal note again. Itís kinda weird. Finish is long and camphorous. Itíd be better without the pharmaceutical streak.

Tap. Pours clear amber with a large, creamy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, and herbal hops, biscuit and honey malt, pear and apple esters. Flavor is heavy hops and bitterness with supporting malt, fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium to full body and carbonation.
