22oz bottle: pours a mostly opaque black with dark mahogany edges and a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet toasty dark caramel malty nose with good dark chocolate character and some vanilla and bourbon notes. Body starts with pretty good fullness and dark malty sweetness with dark fruits and chocolate flavor well balanced with vanilla and bourbon oak before a semi-sweet finish with lingering dark chocolate.

Sampled on 12/21/2012. This Imperial Stout pours a medium to dark black color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized off white head, with nice lacing and decent retention. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, vanilla, dark fruits and sweet. A medium to full bodied Imperial Stout. Malts are chocolate and coffee, somewhat sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice balance between the malt, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Decent carbonation. Very smooth tasting. The vanilla is not too overwhelming and balances the coffee/chocolate/roasty malts nicely. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottle: So i somehow deleted the rating without knowing it since I had bought a couple bottles of this beer and really enjoyed it. I all recall is dark black malts that had a real boozy taste of alcohol and rich flavor of vanilla. By far their best anniversary ale.

Bottle. Dark dark reddish brown, almost black with a small off-white head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, some vinous qualities. Taste is sweet, good amount of vanilla but not overbearing. Vanilla on the finish which is sweet and roasted. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very good.

2011 written in Sharpie on the bottle, thanks to danielnovak3 for sharing this guy. Served in a Founders snifter.
A: Pours a dark brown with darkened ruby edges. Small tan head. Looks very light and thin for an Imperial stout.
S: Nice oak and some subtle bourbon with nice chocolate and vanilla.
T: More oak and sweet vanilla. Caramelized sugars and some chocolate.
M: Very thin. Drinks almost like a brown ale. It is drinkable though, but I want my imperial stouts on the thicker side.
O: Definitely super thin for an imperial stout so it got docked some points, but it was pretty tasty overall.

Black wax-dipped bomber purchased 15 months ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($7.49). Pours well short of black, more of a dark brown with reddish highlights. The two fingers of yellow-brown head quickly reduces to a very thin layer. Aroma of toffee, creamy vanilla, roasted marshmallows, bourbon, boozy barrel, and dark roasted malts. Flavor of butterscotch, caramel, coconut, chocolate, vanilla, and some sweet-ish bourbon. Smooth and a nice level of sweetness. Medium bodied with a velvety mouthfeel. The high ABV is almost completely hidden. Nicely done and I think the aging helped some. (70, 738)

opened 5/12/12. Black pour with a finger an a half of tan creamy head. Vanilla aroma I remember from when this beer was fresh has given was to an almost all oak aroma. Still an excellent chocolate vanilla oak flavor in this stout. Wish I had picked up a few more bottles when it was around. Some finishing alcohol burn. Tons of oak aftertaste

Thanks to elnadeau for sharing this bottle with me. This black pour has nice complexity and achieves a great balance between the flavors from the vanilla, the barrels and all of the other complexities
