COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This yearís 22nd Anniversary beer is a Vanilla Imperial Stout, with a portion aged in bourbon barrels for nine months. The barrel-aged beer was then blended with a fresh batch of stout, along with the addition of fresh split Madagascar vanilla beans. The bourbon and vanilla flavors perfectly complement the dark chocolate and warming fishing of this 8.5% sipper, making it an ideal dessert or after dinner drink.

(22oz bomber thanks to bu11zeye) clear brown-ruby with creamy dark tan head. Nose of fudge and cocoa. Taste of oak, vanilla, rich chocolate. Creamy body and cola-like carbonation.

Sampled on 12/21/2012. This Imperial Stout pours a medium to dark black color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized off white head, with nice lacing and decent retention. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, vanilla, dark fruits and sweet. A medium to full bodied Imperial Stout. Malts are chocolate and coffee, somewhat sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice balance between the malt, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Decent carbonation. Very smooth tasting. The vanilla is not too overwhelming and balances the coffee/chocolate/roasty malts nicely. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottle opened by banning. Served in a Jackie Oís snifter. Pours near black with a thin off white head and a thin collars afterward. Not entirely opaque, which immediately indicates that it is not going to be as viscous as it should be. The nose brings vanilla plus a bit of light chocolate. There is a very slight roast presence. Flavor is pretty one dimensional. There is a strong amount of vanilla and not really much else. Light chocolate and roast in the background, but it could really use some hops or more oak, or potentially some more roast. Now, itís just too sweet and has lots of vanilla with nothing backing it up. Medium body that could be more viscous. Okay, but a bit of a disappointment. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-02-2011

Dark black in color, clear with a thin head. Nice Dark chocolate lots of vanilla aroma and flavor This was a super beer loved sipping on this. Bourbon was present and subtle mellowed the flavors for sure.

Thanks to hamilton23 for this one in trade. Pours a light porter (cola) brown with a tan head. Nose on this one is vanilla-forward, but not as much as I would expect with "vanilla" in the title. I also get roasted malts, some chocolate, some wood, and a slight barrel presence. Flavor is a bit more boozy, but nice vanilla tones, some wood and chocolate come in later in the dance. A bit light in body for an imperial stout, but otherwise very enjoyable.

Split this three ways with friends... Oh my. Aroma and flavor is a bit subdued after sitting on this one for a year - but itís darn good still. Poured a near pitch black - though held up to the light shows a great deal of color shining through. Aroma is very subtle, which worried me a bit at the start. Flavor was pretty darn amazing. I enjoyed it quite a lot - vanilla notes, chocolate, malts, woah.

Bottle: Thanks Stawn: Served in a Duvel glass: Brown pour. Medium sized vanilla ish light beige colored foamy head on top of a deep dark to black ish colored beer with a ruby shine. Aromas of raisin, oatmeal, vanilla, some malt roast, light sweets, some rice, some chalk, chocolate and light roast. Flavours of cookies, vanilla, malt roast, some vanilla marzipan tones, light chocolate, some bitters, malts and toast, light light coffee, herbal roast, light mocha, light wood tones and some sweet dried leaves... Aftertaste is a mix of bitters, toast/roast, light vanilla, chocolate/bon bons and a hint of vanilla. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, between meeium and fuller bodied and a creamy texture. Bottle. Dark brown pour, tan head. This beer is what you think it is, a mediocre stout brewed by a mediocre brewery. Roasted malt, chocolate vanilla, and light oak. Maybe a touch of fruit, but mostly sweet roastiness, not overly flavorful. Rather thin.
