Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. Orange with a white head. The aroma is very nice. I get a lot of oak character, as well as some vanilla and bourbon. There is also some sticky molasses character and some toffee. The flavor is very similar. I get some bourbon, as well as the associated oak, vanilla and maple. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Very nice beer, understand there is some variation but it is intensely sweet and caramally, slight fruit, slight earthy hop.

22 oz bottle from Shane. Thanks!
A: Caramel coloration with a creme head that’s content to rest around the edges. Surprisingly light on its legs.
N: Caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee, and malts. Honey at the edges, and plenty of deep oak.
T: Tasty bourbon mixed with ample vanilla and honey. Caramel and toffee make for a sugary treat. Still balanced, I get some bitterness of hops and a hint of dried pineapple.
M: Rather light for an Old Ale. It doesn’t ruin the beer, but it could use some further heft and stickiness. However, it does drink far too easily for a 12.2% beer since the alcohol is shockingly absent.
O: A well-rounded beer. Balanced and enjoyable; Drink it soon, I think.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (6982) - London, ENGLAND - DEC 29, 2012
Bottle at a ChrisO tasting, London. Pours clear ruby with a small, white cream head. Boozy malts in the nose, with some caramel and toasty bread. Big sweet flavor with lots of caramel, golden raisins, nice toffee. Full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Big sugary finish with lots more caramel character, mild warmth, almost no bitterness. Quite sweet but very characterful. A good sipper.

Bottle from Bev4less: Appeared as a dense mahogany/ burnt orange hue that was topped with a thin foam head. Aromas is mild with a thick malty backbone while a dominate nose of bourbon and wood barreling comes off strong. The drink is intensely sweet that has a sugary taste of syrup and caramel malts, but is masked behind a boozy punch of bourbon whiskey. Really hits me hard with alcohol.

Trade with JHogan4. The aroma is bourbon, toffee, fruit. The appearance is reddish brown, white head, big-time carbonation bubbles. The flavor is bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, fruit. The finish is bourbon warming, sweet. Medium in body, a little thinner than expected. really good, but it should probably be laid down, to mellow out the bourbon flavors a bit. Thanks, Jeremy.

Bottle, 10/31/2012. Pours clear dark ruby amber, thin light tan head. Aroma thick with smooth bourbon notes, vanilla and wood, plenty of dark toffee fruitiness. Flavor follows suit, though without as much depth-whiskey, light vanilla, dark bread, subtle roast, dry caramel and oak, booze. Medium palate, yet still a bit thin for the ABV. Pretty nice all the same, definitely enjoyed this one.
