COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the first batch of his namesake Amber, Karl shared a beer and a passion that changed brewing in San Diego. Imported Munich malts give our original flagship the deep bronze color and crisp toasted malt flavors of a Vienna-style lager, while Cascade hops and our proprietary yeast strain lend a smooth body and clean finish. Brewed in small batches since 1989, Karl Strauss Amber remains San Diego’s original session beer.

Karl spent his life making beer. He believed that behind every beer recipe was an inspiration, and behind every pint was a story waiting to be told. Karl Strauss Amber was his story, a story that challenged and inspired a new generation of brewers. Today we brew our own stories, while raising a pint to the man and the beer that started it all.

Very light copper colored. Sweet caramel nose and a crystal malt body. Finish is moderately bitter and smooth.

Blake (396) - Orange, California, USA - FEB 26, 2003
Had on tap at TGI Friday's La Jolla on February 21st, 2003
Aroma has slight hint of malt and alcohol with an amber/red appearance. Head is minimal, not even worth mentioning. Taste is of strong alcohol with a slightly acidic flavor. Not a pleasing beer. Hate to take down a local brewery, but this is not their best offering.

microdyke (360) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 12, 2003
A very light amber color with a head that is holding on to the edge of my glass with all of it's strength. A waft of caramel and malts. The unfavorable metallic taste hits me lightly on the tongue and as it warms the caramel really jumps out. Not a fan...I hate metallic.

tomseaman (35) - Alpine, California, USA - JAN 17, 2003
Very nice for a day-to-day beer. Good aroma, taste and body. It's my new basic beer, but not any better (or worse) than Sam Adams.

Ernest (7164) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 11, 2002
Draught. Body is dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted light bread), lightly hoppy (flowers), with a light note of peach. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter, lightly acidic. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Decent malty amber.

Weak & fizzy. Little noticable hops. Overated, especially for a flagship beer.

Medium gold color, small head. Mild malts and hops. Mild flavor, good balance of hops and malts. Slight taste of roasted malts, very subtle. Finish is smooth. Aftertaste is slightly malty, no bitterness.

Amber color, as advertised. There was a hint of caramel in the taste, but otherwise bland.

The karl strauss brewers did not take any risks with this one. it is very simnple, ok almost too simple. the malt and hops yeild a bit too much ground to the water in this one.

Very impressive aroma, and good taste. Overall a good lager, but its only flaw is the taste tends to fade toward the bottom of the bottle. Also a very carbonated lager...cant drink too much of it.
