COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the first batch of his namesake Amber, Karl shared a beer and a passion that changed brewing in San Diego. Imported Munich malts give our original flagship the deep bronze color and crisp toasted malt flavors of a Vienna-style lager, while Cascade hops and our proprietary yeast strain lend a smooth body and clean finish. Brewed in small batches since 1989, Karl Strauss Amber remains San Diego’s original session beer.

Karl spent his life making beer. He believed that behind every beer recipe was an inspiration, and behind every pint was a story waiting to be told. Karl Strauss Amber was his story, a story that challenged and inspired a new generation of brewers. Today we brew our own stories, while raising a pint to the man and the beer that started it all.

Bottle split with mcberko. Pours a clear pale amber/brown, with no head. Aroma of honey, caramel, malts, bread. Flavour is quite muted, grass, bread, light caramel, honey. Only the fizzy carbonation holds your attention. Not nasty, but easily forgettable.

On tap at KS in La Jolla. Very light amber/auburn with tan head. Stale caramel, malts and grains with some toffee. Starts sweet but a touch of bitterness, finish is nice and dry. Did not like this.

Pours dark amber with biscuit notes and a light toast Malt dominates with the grains really shining and going long, you do get a light hop hit but this one is all about the malts.

Had this in bottle last week in San Diego...forgot to review. It’s sort of forgettable. It’s sweet and biscuity and lagerlike. Pretty forgettable.

Just a notch below the red trolley ale this beer was a little lighter and just had a little less taste. Still a nice beer.

Had in San Diego. Pour was a nice clear amber cherry. Aroma is deep malts and caramel which both carry into the flavor. Minor hints of something leafy. Nice brew.
